Fuel shut off at 2700

My grand daughter just turn this 2004 4dr. dually back to me about two months ago. I got it for her two years ago. I filled it up to drive home. And filled it when I got here. 23. 9 mpg, BTW it is a 6 sp. It has run great till about a week ago. On that day it ran up to 2700rpms and shut down. I shifted to 3 just layed on its belly. And just the other day, I pulled on to the freeway, It did the same, I ran thru the gears and in 6Gear 80 was all it would do . I haven't been reading much or the 04 since I have a 99 Quad. 350 dually, auto. I will have to re-learn this 04. BTW Does it use the same oil filter ??? Frank

Check the fuel filter and air filter, sounds more like the fuel filter.
