the fuel shut off solenoid is not working, replaced solenoid and relay, still no start, i've got 12 volts going in the relay but only 8 going out took ground wire for relay and went straight to the battery still the same thing, if i power up the white wire on the solenoid it will come up so the solenoid is good, also swaped relay with one out of another pickup still didn't change

Small blue wire at the drivers side battery positive terminal. Take it completely off. Make sure the wires are not broken just at the crimp. Clean and replace terminal if necessary. More important than some think.

I second above. There is a fusable link in that wire too but your problem is likely corroded connection.

If you get sick of messing around with the solenoid...

Plan B:

1) Remove solenoid and keep it + all parts in a gallon Zip-Loc bag... place on shelf.

2) Install PTO, throttle or choke cable + knob to directly actuate shutdown lever on the injection pump.

I've been running my truck like this since probably 2002 and have had zero issues with the alternator (dare I say the thing is original?!) like some folks said would happen since there are times the engine will be running and the electrical system (including alternator field current) will not be active.

The shutdown lever is spring loaded such that you have to actually try to shut it down by pushing it back towards the firewall. Full forward (towards the radiator) is the start position. Lucky for us - this corresponds well to the use of a cable. Unlike my darn Kubota... which is spring loaded in the stop position at rest.

Is this ghetto fabulous? Sure.

Does it solve a problem quickly and work well for cheap money? You betcha.

Matt
