I just replaced my solenoid with a manual cable and I was wondering if there are any situations that I may face in the future with regaurd to autoshutdown as a result. How many types of autoshutdown features does a 95 model have? I would like to leave the cable in place but I'm a little woried. Thanks in advance

I got my cable from NAPA for about $20. 00. Try to get one that has a stiff inner wire. The 1st one was a choke cable and It wasnt strong enough. I mounted it right above the brake pedal with one of the dashboard screws. And it is push to stop and pull to run. The one I bought is locking, but it wouldn' have to be. I went out the firewall through an existing hole that had a couple other wires through it. I used a flat piece of metal bent at a right angle for the internal mounting. I had to saw a slot in it to mount the cable holder in. The other end I mounted to the metal piece that held the solenoid. Again using an L shaped peice of flat metal along with a screw and secoud piece of flat metal to act as a clamp. I can send photos for any that are interested.

funny you should post this...

... just the other day, a co-worker's very expensive ($400+ ) hold-open solenoid went up in smoke---I'm gonna print him this thread and bring it to work for him tomorrow... He currently has to work the valve manually, and would probably like a diagram for a manual push-pull ..... As would I!!! I don't like things going up in smoke unless I DO IT ON PURPOSE!!!! and that won't apply to things under the truck hood... rm

I'm feeling a sudden, irresistable urge to do a $20 BOMB run... .

The process is fairly simple or I wouldn't be able to do it:D

The main thing is to get a cable that is strong enough to overpower the spring on the throtle body. The fuel valve is normaly open. I replaced mine with a cable because I had visions of it failing in a very inconvient location such as a busy interstate during a rainstorm:( The cable I used is one that has a black plactic sheath on the outside which is good because it provide some insulation from exposed electrical conections.

Shut-off cable

It is alot easier to put a pull shut-off on. You can take all the brackets off that hold the soleniod and throw them under the bench. I bought my cable from JD For a 4430 aq. tractor. I anchored the end of the housing to the shut-off lever stop screw bracket. That way the cable is pionting forward towards the shut-off lever. If you want I can make the anchor bracket for the cable housing and send it to you. All I need is the dia. of the cable housing and dia. of the core. It will bolt on using the same bolts that hold the stop lever adj. screw bracket. Probably 20 min. job.

Another thing to consider when using a shut down cable is to have it mounted in a conspicuous location and have it well marked.

A buddy of mine was in a roll over accident in his dually last week. When the truck Finlay came to rest it was still running, wheels still spinning and he was out cold. Emergency workers had no problem turning off the keys but could they find your cable?Something to think about.....

The truck was totaled, but these trucks stay together, when he came to he was bruised up and very sore, already has a replacement CTD. and is doing well

my XHD cable arrived from AWDirect...

... Great GOOGLY-MOOGLIE!!!!

I ordered the one for a PTO control, and the knob on it looks like a gear-shift-knob!!

(can't wait to do the install, now that there's pix for orientation purposes! :) ) Thanx to dbartos!!

might go get it engraved "pull to kill engine" (yes, I think there's room for that much writing :D )and whited-in... I guess a trophy shop can do that??
