I have a friend with a 1990 Dodge and his fuel solenoid is bad, stealer told him it was $550!!!! Anybody had this problem and know how to fix it, he sure could use some help, thanks.  :--)

Stealer is right ! I just priced the fuel solenoid for a 92 today at the Cummins dealer. Quoted price was $116. 75. Better check around for a better deal.

$116 sound pretty close. I'm going by memory I had to buy a 24v solenoid for a Case and I beleive the Case dealer was about $50 dollars cheaper , so you might try them if you have one local, but be sure to ask for the 12 volt solenoid. Also thinking was the $550 the installed price ? Even that sounds rediculous. AJJ

Try Wentland Diesel up in Oregon.

Got the solenoid from them for my 93 a few months ago. Was under $100 total delivered. They are kind of a pain to change for the first time. I made a special wrench by bending and grinding a 15/16 open end as needed to get to the thing. After wards someone said that when you change, remove the throttle linkage support from the engine and cut of the part that extends up in front of the solenoid. Replace the solenoid while the linkage is off. When the support is reinstalled, the solenoid will be accessable due to cutting off the upper part of the support. Look at it and you will see what I'm talking about.

For a short term fix, the plunger can be removed. Truck will run but won't shut off . will need to use the shutoff lever on the side of the pump to shut off.

I went through this at Christmas. the truck quit on 19th Ave. in San Francisco while we were on our way south. Was pulling the travel trailer at the time and it was a royal pain in the rear getting towed and then fixing.

cut off solenoid

I hope you checked your wiring connection first. I thought my solenoid was bad, but posted a question. Someone was good enough to tell me to check the wiring connection. That was my problem on a 93 with 210. 000. I just pulled wire connectoers off, cleaned them with brake cleaner, then crimped down a tiny bit on the female end to make a good tight connection. Fixed the problem. If you haven't tried, do this. you might also run a jumper directly to the solenoid to see if you can hear a click in it. Just a thought. Good Luck.

Get this, he took the part back to the stealer and they charged him 20% restocking fee, and it was the wrong part!!!!!!!:-{}Don't go to the stealers in this part of the desert. What a bunch of %#@!#%^@.
