My 01 started surging & missing a week ago, thought it was water in the fuel at first but it worsened and when it happens, the boost guage drops to zero, then the boost comes back and it takes off again. I was told it was the MAP sensor - - - changed it - - - cured everything for a week - - - - back to the same old story, changed the MAP sensor again - - - no help, then changed the overflow valve on the injector pump - - - - again, everything seemed fine, but after twenty miles the off and on surging with the drop in boost pressure started all over again - - - - no codes showing on the truck, I even took it to the Dodge store (as a last resort), they hooked it to their computer and it showed no codes. I'm not leaving it there, they don't have a diesel mechanic - - been there - - done that before BIG mistake !!!!

Any one out there ever run across this before - - - - need all the help I can get.

01 3500 4x4 auto, Edge comp, 4'' exhaust, AFE, turnbuckle, isspro guages

Sorry I forgot to mention the FASS, I had the guage stuck up under my windshield wiper and it was reading 16-17 lbs. The vp44 is a rebuilt unit that I had installed on the road in W. Va. about a year ago.

Thanks for the reply, Richie

Same story as mine. Dealer says nothing is wrong. There is other trucks out there with same problem. Cummins and Chrysler just continues to sweep the problems under the mat. My solution, i am going to get rid of the truck

99 garbage

Well don't suppose you have access to an oscilloscope. Because this is what mine has been doing since new. The boost gauge that I have doesn't react fast enough for the boost to show the drop or said differently doesn't have the initial fueling for it to produce the boost nessecary for power. ( gutless wonder) I have one of the scope readings in my picture folder maybe girl friend say's. Mine is due to an electronic corruption due to aaaaaaaaa maybe bad transistor in ECM, PCM APPS. I have found that the cryslurrr and the cummmiinnnnsss mech's to be very under trained. Such junk. next engine will be a real engine cat power. go kitty. :D Oo.

I had a similar problem with mine and the surging, but I don't remember the boost dropping to zero, but the problem I was having was the ground for the comp box, I had it run to the intake horn like Edge says to do. I ran it to the battery and haven't had a problem since.

Tim,

Thanks for the tip, I will move the ground from the air horn to the battery as soon as I get off of this computer. I'm still thinking that it's an electrical problem some where cutting off the fuel. I got a line on a mechanic who just quit one of the local Dodge stores and is going off on his own. He won't be opening his doors to the public until the end of next week - - - - still trying to solve this on my own, but so far - - - - no luck.

Thanks, Richie

Okaaaaaay,

I moved the ground for the EDGE Comp. from the air horn to the negative side of the battery. Then hooked up to a 30 ft. gooseneck for good measure and took a 35 mile round trip to get some fuel ($2. 25 a gal. here), ran that joker 70+ mph both ways with no problems at all. I think Turbo Tim's advise worked - - - - Thanks again !!

You guys with the Edge boxes may want to do the same.

I'm glad that worked for you Rich, I chased that puppy on my truck for a few months, I had people giving me all kinds of crazy ideas like the fact that the ECM would learn to play well after a while??? Silver Bullet do you have any type of box on your truck? Anything with a ground wire? Have you tried cleaning all of the plug connections and grounds. Especially the grounds?

Hey guys,

You might want to spray some "electrical contact cleaner" on both halves of your connections and then use the dielectric grease that you can buy from NAPA that the factory uses to insure a clean water proof/ corrosion proof connection. It was one of many things that I did using all of the advise that was offered to me.

Did you try resetting the throttle position sensor ? Richie

What about those big stickers that say void? Granted I only have a few miles left of warranty but knowing my luck it would die then... lol

I yanked and cleaned the terminals today on the battery and reset the apps. The computer is having to relearn again. Wait and see now I guess.

Warranty ????? What is that ? I've got 215,000 on my 01, every nickle spent is mine.

BUT - - - when she's running good, (which is most of the time) the whole world is fine, and nobody locally can keep up !!

Hope that took care of your problem, good luck. Richie
