Recently purchased a new to me CTD, '99 Quad Cab, long box, 5 speed, 4x4, non-53 block :D, and am so far very happy with the truck. Come from a family of CTD owners, all 1st generations, but never been one so new or shiny ( though she's got 155k on er).

The main reason I bought the truck was, well, you just can't beat the sound of a well piped cummins, and two, having a truck that can pull AND get good fuel mileage. ( avg. 19 and 21, IF the wife doesn't drive it :-laf ) I just have a few starter questions for now. Not really looking to throw too many mods at it, more interested in mpg and longevity, but understand I need a fuel pressure guage (was told LP was changed once already). Need something simple and low cost ( insert CHEAP), that I can put on myself. Don't have any immediate plans for a box or chip, something simple is best for now. Any recommendations on what type, where I can find one, and for how much? Did some searching, but didn't really come up with much.

Second question, why did Dodge/ Cummins go back to a canister fuel filter instead of the spin on. Dad's '93 has the spin on, much handier, as well as the In-laws '92. Is there a kit of some sorts to change my canister to a spin-on, or is there a spin-on in addition too the canister that I am just not seeing, yet. Maybe a dumb question, but I thought I would ask. So far got a lot of good answers from you guys, hoping you could help a newbie out. Thanks

The canister is cheaper , you can also get the pluming to come off the top for the fuel pressure , one of the sponcers of this lite [ Geno's garage ] sells a lot of what you want , but some guys are putting together a bunch off parts to save money , some budy should be chiming in to give you a list , I haven't done it on the 24v trucks yet so I can not give you the list .
But with that fuel system your on the right track , get the gauge ASAP , to avoid damage to the main pump .
