its time i replace the fuel hose on my 96 that is on the transfer pump. the hose is only about 4 inches in length and bent in the middle. does anyone know do i have to depressurize the fuel system to take this hose off? in the haynes manuel chapter 4 part b it says i have to depressurize or i might be at risk for injury do to possible 17000 psi in the hose. the hose looks really bad. or can i just yank the hose right off

The only place where you'll see that kind of pressure is between the injection pump and the injectors and steel lines are used there. Ain't no rubber hose going to hold that much pressure even if it was new. I'd say change it. Wear some goggles though. Haynes was probably just covering their backside.

That hose is on the suction side. No pressure. I think you should get a good service manual. The last time I used a Hayes manual for anything I threw it in the trash. There are no hoses on the pressure side of the pump. The steel line from the lift pump outlet goes to the input side of the fuel filter.
