fuel tank leak, How I Fixed it

I notice fuel leaking from under the truck around the fuel tank. After investigating I found that where the fuel lines went into the tank were rusted and leaking. I went to the dealer and they wanted to sell a whole new sending unit for $500. 00 plus. This was not in the budget if you know what I mean.

So I came up with this and wanted to share. I had a good friend make a replacement out of aluminum. I was able to take the dimensions from the old metal feed thru so that we could use the original o-ring. The copper couplings were also measured to make sure that there were not any restrictions to the flow to the fuel as well. I also replaced the hard lines in the sending unit with new fuel lines sense I had it apart.

I have been running this set up for 4 months now and have not had a drip of fuel on my driveway or noticed any lack in performance. The whole change over from dropping the fuel tank changing the feed thru to putting the tank back in took around 3 hrs in total.

I have some great pictures to share with you all ENJOY!!!!!

Thanks for the comment. Does anyone out there think that this might be something dodge owners would need. If so where could I list it. I would like to share my efforts on this and help others save some cash as well.

Yes. See if your buddy wanys to make some more and put them in the TDR basement enterprises. Lots of us may need these eventually.

Fuel Port

Oo. I do not know if TDR would like it if I used the forum to give a price. Please e-mail myself at -- email address removed -- and I would be more than happy to share. I would include the aluminum port, 4 copper barbed fitting and teflon tape as seen minus the wrenches.

Over two years ago I R&R'd mine for exactly the same reason. I ended up spending $400 from the dealer. That would be an excellent fix for the older tank modules that use the metal fittings. The newer one's are all plastic. I think Geno's should start to carry some of these basement enterprise fixes. It would be a good niche for them and the guys that come up with them. Nice solution. I am not sure but is that Teflon tape? I know for a fact that that will not hold up to exposure to #2.

Teflon tape

You are correct on the teflon tape that I used. I have not had any problems as of yet. The fittings are tapered for a good mechanical fit and the tape is only for an extra seal if needed. The tape is not directly exposed to #2. I have been using this set up for 4 months now and have not seen a break down as of yet. Thanks for the input, I will be keeping a close eye on it to see if I have any breakdown of the teflon tape in the future.

Good idea on Geno's
