After living without a functional fuel level gauge for the last 70K, I tried fixing the fuel tank module this morning.
Mine is not a float problem but one where the metal piece that allows the pickup screen to stay on the bottom of the fuel tank, well the slots have worn wide enough that the screws do not keep the lower portion of the module located.

Anyone know the replacement cost of the module from DC? Anyone have an extra one for sale? Anyone have a broken one with a good metal piece that I can use to replace mine?
The floats not the problem on mine and if it was, it's only a $20 piece I believe.

Any input welcomed.

If you still have the mod out,the screws are to position the assy for the tank depth,my brother-in law had the same problem and he like me thought the price was steep,I got larger warshers, befor taking it apart could tel where it was from the factory-scribed location, tool larger washers& longer screws and replaced oem's to location. Being we took apart on a sun,NO parts. it was a shot that's still holding a year later.

redram- I finally fixed mine a couple of weeks ago. I used the 3. 00 kit to fix the sender itself. I put star lock washers under the screws to hold the metal piece you spoke of. I set the length of the unit so that the screen would be about 1/4" above the bottom of the tank when almost empty then locked it down. The gauge is not so accurate when the tank is full but it is much more so when almost empty now. Some day I'll start a thread titled "What they DON'T tell you about dropping the fuel tank!"

I had already done the 'bigger washer' trick 3 years ago. Now the slots are worn even wider.

Bill, that one I haven't done. I guess if I'm going to modify the mechanism, I may just have to come up with an alternative fuel sending unit.
At teh price that DC charges, I think I could source a non moving electric float rod that would match the required electrical requirements of the dash guage.

This all started because I finally wanted to install my aux fuel tank and wanted at least one functional fuel guage.

Sure wish DC would be forced to do a recall on fuel tank sending modules. Of course it might bankrupt them, seeing as the failure rate is probably 130%! (multiple failures and all)

Oh well, thank goodness the odometer works!

Thanks guys.

Anyone know if the metal piece with the slots is common to both gas and / or diesel units? Might beable to pick one up in a salvage yard. I know that the gas version has an intank pump.
