Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fuel Tank Overfilled?

Was filling up my 1998 CTD last nite and to my suprise fuel started leaking from what looks like the top of the tank. It was dark and my flash light was dead.

I looked at the top of the tank this morning and it looks like it could have been coming from what looks to be a 90 degree vent on top of the tank near all of the lines. Bottom and sides seem to be dry today just a little dampness near the vent from where I think it may have come from last nite but no puddles or leaks. Could I have just overfilled it and it leaked out of the vent or could I have possibly popped or damaged something when filling up ?

sure its not coming from the filler neck coupling? Those dry-rot sometimes. .

My '01 has done that twice to me. I am not sure what is leaking. . But I just try to remember not to top it off on slant.

the fittings on my 96 rotted pretty bad when i pulled the sending unit out last year.
