If I were to replace the stock fuel tank with an aftermarket tank and install an aftermarket float assembly, would it work with my stock guage. With the problems that we have with the float assembly, I was wondering if this would cure the problem. .

I have not found an aftermarket replacement tank that uses an aftermarket sending unit. they have all been designed to use the factory unit. Transfer flow has a TRAX system that supposed to equalizes the fuel between two tanks and it is supposed to correct the problem. i do not believe it. i am in conversation now with the sales staff to resolve it. if it does work i am seriously considering this option.

I bought my truck in January and the fuel guage has not worked since I got it. The dealer that I bought it from said that they had dropped the tank and replaced the sending unit and it tested fine, but no guage. Maybe it is in the wire between the tank and the dash. The guage shows 1/2 tank all the time. I just use the trip meter for fueling stops. .

My fuel gage works, but when I get down to a 1/4 tank and refuel I can only put in approx. 16 gallons which means I've actually got 1\2 tank of fuel and not 1\4 tank.
I've thought about changing it, but this way it gives me plenty of time to look for a truck stop for good diesel fuel.

If you check TDR archives the are pictures on improving factory fuel senders that will solve the problem very nicely. Yes, the factory design sucks, until it's rebuilt. My mom has a Dodge van and it has the same problems as our trucks... Isn't it funny that there are 57 Chevys running around with the factory original senders!!! The tank and sender replacement is fairly easy once you have little fuel in the tank. The sender comes out like taking a cap of a thermos. Then there is a big rubber seal around sender. The fuel lines unhook with just your fingers. Good luck. Herb
