Fuel tank sending unit replacement

I have a new fuel tank pickup/sending unit to install that I bought from the dealer. I noticed that the bottom plastic part slides up and down. Is there an adjustment that is done from the factory to set the level based on the tank size, and then the screws are tightened to lock it in place? I don't have an FSM to verify the procedure. It seems that this is possible because it seems the fuel level would be inaccurate if the fuel level sending unit was allowed to slide up and down?

Nope just leave it loose, it will slide to the position it need to be at.

When I did mine I just put it in and it seems to work fine. The reason these go out is the tank is overfilled. You should stop filling when the pump shuts off instead of filling clear to the neck.

What do you mean by "go out" ?



I'm replacing the entire unit because somewhere its sucking air.
