I am in the middle of replacinng the fuel tank level sending unit and I cannot get the supply hose connection off. I am pushing the retaining tabs in and pulling on the hose but it wont release. When I push the connection back on I can hear the tabs click back in. Any ideas, gotta have the truck back up today for work tomorrow. Feel free to call me 262-895-3515

TIA

Dave

I found that dropping down the tank some by backing bolts off most of the way helps alot as well as dropping the drive line too.

Got it

Eric, Thanks for the reply, had to drop the tank completely to the ground and use needle nose plier to hold the tabs in while I pulled. They finally came off.

Thanks

Dave

They are a RPITA to get. You might want to see if you can clean the 2 surfaces. I used a VERY small fine file on the one side and a pencile ersarer on the board, also bending it to have more tention. Worked like a charm and no $$ spent on new parts.

DShuart, on your fuel module quick connect, is the fuel nipples on module metal or plastic? If you have a air compressor spray air at quick connects to blow any debris out of connections. If the module has metal nipples coming out of it, spray rust penetrate on quick connection. If you have metal nipples, it maybe better to wait and buy the little locks before pulling the tank, so you don't have to worry about being careful with locks. If plastic nipples you can try using a pick or small screw driver to push the locks slightly further to help locks to completely disengage. If you want more advise than this write back and I'll give you a call. :)

Elite1 it took me almost 4 hrs by myself, once I got the tank lowered to the ground and was able to get at the connections, they came off, thought I broke the return but it just flew off, it put some clean eng oil on the connections for the reinstall. Also the wire connection the the sending unit surprised me, looked and saw the four pin connector and the hole the size of a pencil the wires ran thru and went rut ro. I was able to remove the wires from the connector without any special tool. Soon as I fired the truck up the low fuel light came on, topped off the tank and it took 33. 5 gals, that was cutting it close, phew! lucky I have CITGO that sells good clean fuel about a half mile down the road, I definately wasnt up to bleeding lines along side the road. Thanks for everyones help and input, this site is awesome.
