Well I accomplished David Kelley's fuel tank vent mod on my 2004. 5 3500 short bed today and it took a little longer then 2. 5 hour's. I started with driving my truck 18. 5 miles after the fuel fill light came on and I beleave I could have easly drove another 2 miles on what was left in the tank. The install is easy enough even by yourself I guess as long as the tank is empty.

My fill up was 34. 376 gallons and filled so quickly that after the first click off of the fuel nozzle I started refulling on high and overfilled the tank spilling a bit. The tank still had fuel in it so I guess that is why it did'nt reach the 35. 00 gallon mark. Diesel up here in Santa Clarita is $2. 399 a gallon I guess I will be spending around $85. 00 a fill up. :D

You will enjoy having the extra few gallons. Mine will finally move over to the full mark from pegged position after about 120 to 130 miles. This is mostly shorter trips,I have not got to do a long trip yet.

I took mine 30 miles past the DTE 0 when I done my install on the vent kit. I still had a good bit of fuel left in the bottom when I dropped the tank, I'd say around 3 or 4 gallons, but some say they drained it out and got 6 to 7 gallons.

Once the pump knozzle clicks off I usually just give it short clicks and usually less than a minute I see liquid at the vent opening. Sure beats the heck out of standing there 10+ minutes with the stock set up. :D

Sure is nice...

Sure is nice to be able to top off in a matter of seconds. I still had about an inch plus in the bottom of the tank and I put this much in 35. 8 gallons. Not bad for a short bed :D

That makes me sick. I just filled up 2 days ago at 2. 55/gallon. Over 95. 00 dollars. Oh well, the joys of NY.

Whoa John. Poke around I'm still getting it for 2. 45 on the North Shore. Never thought I would think 2. 45 was a bargain. LOL

My personal best is 39. 5 gallons to top of fill neck. I know that when I hear the chime, I have about 6 gallons left. I chime at 34-34. 5gallons and if I drive the extra 40 miles at 10mpg I always fill right at 38-38. 5 gallons. I broke th $100 mark that day!!!

Guys, right now I get a lot of foam when filling up so much so that if I want to fill all the way up I click the nozzle and wait for the foam to go away and repeat until I see fuel. Will this be a problem if I get the vent kit??

Nope, that's the main reason for the vent kit.

This is the best investment I have made on my truck. Great instructions, great parts quality, and I even got a buck or two rebate on the shipping costs. That kind of honesty is hard to come by these days. Thanks.

The vent kit will not eliminate the foaming problem, but it will cut it down to a far more manageable level.

When filling after the kit is installed, it will only take 15 - 30 seconds to fill it to the brim, after the nozzle kicks off the first time.

So far I've only put in 12 gallons (all my cheap dad would put in on our trip). My trip computer said I averaged 16. 9 mpg on my short 220 mile trip.

Do you think a dealer will notice the kit?

What does the kit do?

Dave,

The kit allows you to fill your tank all the way to the top in less time than it takes with a stock setup. Fill your tank until the pump clicks off. After that, slowly trickle fuel into the fill neck until you can see it at the top of the neck and it stays there. This will take you about 8-12 minutes. The kit cuts this time down to less than a minute and allows you to fill the tank to the same level every time. If you add up the time spent at the pump adding the last couple of gallons over the course of a year of 40 fillups, it will be over 5 hours!

Worlds Slowest Mechanic

Well I got the vent kit in today. I gotta say. It was not an easy job at all. However I am not one to judge these things. I'm learning as I go. It seems that every one else that did this job took 2. 5 to 3 hours. It took me 6. When I first got my truck I got it undercoated. Boy di that make for a mess today. My daughter took pictures of me when I was done. I look like I played in the world mud bowl down in North Conway. My biggest time consuming problems were with the discoecting and reconecting of the fuel lines & the electical thingy on top of the sender module. The second longest thing was getting the ring back on over the the sending module. I had to have the truck up on ramps because of the Mopar running boards are low enough that you aint gonna get that thing out unless it is up somemore. Maybe that is what took me so long. Having to reach the extra height, & I aint real tall, & have got short arms. When I'm up to it I'll post some of those pictues of the mud bowl imitation. They will be good for a laugh if nothing else. Gotta go I'm beat & the bed will feel good. As will that young wife of mine. ;)

Every one take care & Make it a Great Day.

Installed the kit yesterday with the help of my youngest son. Two hours and forty minutes start to finish. Excellent instructions make this job a piece of cake!

I purchased one of Davids vent kits several months back. Now I need the detailed instructions on the installation. I ran a search but the installation instructions do not come up. Can anybody out there please point me in the right direction. Thanks. Pete
