I read on another forum about a fella who said he had gotten water in his fuel tank because it leaked down from the hole in his bed where his 5th wheel hitch is & got in his fuel tank through the vent on top of the tank... has anyone ever heard of this problem?

Thank you,

Wayne

I've got a group of trucks, some of them with more than one tank... our 08 5500 had the vent in the top but it was sealed... we opened it up and connected the vent to both tanks together...

All my trucks have flat beds... we've never had a water problem... . we do have primary filters that are 10 microns with water separator... but we run these filter for a year... 35-60K miles without a problem... I assume if we had water the separator would show water... We've never had the WIF light come on. .

Just a for your information Chrysler has known about this since 2006 and actually had a TSB sent out for it. There fix was to add a 6 inch hose to each vent and let it hang down between the tank and heat shield.

I bought a 2009 back in June of 2009, couldn't beleive it when I looked and sure enough no hoses. I added hoses with a carbuator type fuel filter on each vent and let the hose hang down as previously stated. This way it helps keep the dirt out of the tank too.

Unbeleivable Chrysler is still shipping trucks out of the factory without the vent hoses. Very poor Quality control in my opinion.

as a matter of fact two days ago i found out about this problem. i have a 2004. 5 ctd truck and have been a member of tdr for a few years, and i used to always hear people say vent hose, vent hose i never new what the hell that way so i never paid attention, until two days ago i was reading a thread and it talked about this same thing so this time i paid more attention to it and sure enough i got under my truck and there they were two nipples (elbows) sticking out of the top of the fuel tank. and i thought what the hell is this crap! no wonder i had a fuel pump go out on me. so now i wonder after all this time since 2004 how much dirt, sand, water. there is in my tank? HOLLY MOLLY!

I SHOULD GO TO CHRYSLER AND have them clean my whole fuel system.

first thing i did was buy some hose and a filter at the end of the hose:eek:

fuel tank vent

As most Dodge trucks are made in Saltillo Mexico, there might be a "lingo"problem on this. This vent problem has been going on off and on since the first generation.

My 09 had no vent lines or caps, I went to the junk yard and got axle breather caps and some new 5/16 line and attached them high and dry. Find it hard to believe they could injest much water except under all but the worst conditions, still a poor way to leave a truck that cost this much.
