Last time I fueled up, I caused a puddle of fuel on the deck below my fuel tank. I thought I had sprund a leak some place. When I crawled underneath I found that the rubber vent return line had a hole in it on top. When I removed the line, I found a very ragged hole about an inch and a half in lenght and about an inch wide about an inch from the hose clamp at the filler pipe end of the hose. There was nothing that could have rubbed against it and from the looks of the hole, it seems as if a squirrel or rabbit might have been attracted to the diesel smell and relatively soft texture of the hose... sure hope that rodent got a mouthful of fuel and died someplace.

Now I am trying to replace the hose... auto parts stores just look at the hose and say that they don't have anything that diameter in fuel quality. Any suggestions?

Thanks. Today is monday and the Dodge dealer was open. They had one in stock and I bought it. If anybody has any ideas as to how to protect these rubber components from the apetites of squirrels I would love to hear. I will probably wrap both this and the filler neck in aluminum tape... if nothing else, it might give the animal spine tingles if it bites into metal with its teeth.

Scott,

Sorry to get off the subject, but the only reason why your teeth tingle is because of any fillings you may have. If you had perfect teeth, you could chew a beer can just like the dog.
