I was installing the body lift on my truck last week and noticed when I lifted the bed that the fuel tank (upper rear near fill hose) has a white 90* fitting coming from the tank. It is barbed like there is supposed to be a hose on it but there is nothing. Is there supposed to be a vent hose or filter on it? I thought DC fixed that problem. Someone correct me if I am wrong and learn me what this thing is supposed to be.

I think they are called 'rollover valves' , I assume to prevent fuel leakage if

you should roll the truck upside down like in an accident.

They are also supposed to vent to atmosphere. Some of the older models

had these fittings recessed in an area that collected water and therefore

could suck in dirt and water. Some are on a hump and some are down in

a recess. I think my front one is on a hump.

Also, most tanks had two of them, one near the front and one near the back.

People are putting a 1/4" fuel hose over them and a cheap fuel filter on the

end of that hose to make sure nothing is sucked in. Some are using a tee,

connecting both hoses to the tee and putting the filter off of the branch of

the tee.

Just decide how you want to run the hoses so as to tie them off out of the

way and cut the hoses to length at the last minute.

I'm surprised to hear the '07's haven't been corrected by Dodge too.

I have tomorrow off but a ton of things to do. Will go by the auto parts house and get the stuff to fix it. The last thing I need is for DC to deny any claims because of dirty or water. THanks for the help

I don't see what year truck you have, but my 06 had a "recall?" notice on this. I just did it myself since the dealer said I had to leave the truck all day :(

I noticed this fitting also on mine a few days back while I investigated a new fuel leak when I stuff the tank. I'm 99. 99999% positive this was not in there before a dealer did the intake LP retrofit, is this part of the new set up and can I plug it off with a piece of hose or does it need to remain open? :confused:Also noticed a open fitting on top of the module itself, sure is a helluva lot of vents sitting there on top of these tanks for whatever reason.

My truck has the original LP (on the fuel filter) and there are two of those rollover valves on the tank. One is up front and the other is on the back, raised portion of the tank.

I tied them together with 1/4" hose to a tee, then more hose to a fuel filter, ty-wrapped up to the frame.

FWIW, I used a '69 VW beetle fuel filter.

The barb fitting was there before they did your LP. As stated before, there are 2 of them. They are ball valves that are there to prevent fuel leakage in case the truck rolls over, but allows ventilation for the fuel tank. They are there because DC uses the same tank for both the hemis and CTD's

There are several threads on this forum about this. It's good reading. If you do put a hose on there, don't close it off. I did the T thing. ran hoses from both barbs to a T, then down the side of the tank.

I'll bet the leak is not from there, but rather the seal where the pump and sending unit go in. It is leaking now since the dealer had that apart to retro-fit the new lift pump.

For liability reasons I would have a dealer do it... . :{

Thats kinda what I was thinking... . for obvious reasons  but seemed to be coming from the rear part of the tank, I could see my vent kit mod is still intact, have a pretty much full tank which is why I haven't touched it yet. Have to go to OKC and back this Th thru Sat. , hopefully I can get back into town with fumes in the tank then I'll drop it and see whats what. Just don't remember seeing anything left open when I did the vent kit mod though, and now when I get my mirror up there there are 2 open barbs, and not the small ones everyones concerned with.

I will tell you that the lower check valve on my 06 leaked slightly after the vent modification. I think that at each fillup, a little diesel would come out until the valve closed under the pressure of the fuel.

But I also know that you have to hammer/punch the lockring past a stop to get it fully seated. I agree that this is probably the issue. You should be able to get your hand between the bed/tank and feel for the leak. I would also make sure he got the fuel lines reconnected properly. it could be leaking there as well.
