Fuel tank venting problems?

Sometimes after shutting my engine off and exiting the vehicle, I can hear a soft whistle coming from the box area of the truck. I could never identify the source until one day when stopped for re-fueling.
I could detect the whistle, and as I loosened the fuel cap I could hear the tank sucking air, after which the whistle was gone. Now, I vent the gas cap when ever I hear the whistle. Perhaps I should leave the cap loose to allow for better breathing.
It must be pretty hard on the lift pump when the tank is not venting. Anyone have similar experiences or suggestions for a fix?

You probably don't have this problem unless you are experiencing low power, but a few trucks got out of the factory with a cap on the fuel tank vent fitting. Check yours to see if it has it. #ad
