Anyone added a fuel tank to the 3rd gen CTD. There appears to be room for a small fuel tank(20gal) positioned inside the inner frame rail left side. What hardware will I need? Is this a good idea? Maby I should spend the $900 and replace the stock tank with an extended range tank? In Southern CA I'm paying close to $100 to fill the tank. Across the border less than $60 (no noticible difference in performance).

I just put in a 45 gal. aux tank in the bed of my truck (yesterday). I could not find a larger tank to replace the factory tank in my SB truck. I like the one I am using because it only takes up about 9" of bed and fits easily between the rear of the cab and the fender wells. It stands about 1/2" above the top of the bed. I use an electric fuel pump to transfer fuel from the tank to a fitting I installed on the filler neck under the truck. It can be removed quickly if I need the full bed (unless it is full of fuel). I pull a 5th wheel RV and like to be able to go all day without trying to find a place to refuel in unfamiliar territory. This is the 2nd truck I have set up like this and it works great.
