Fuel Theives

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in the parts and accessories section.

Is there a locking fuel cap that works for our trucks? My tank got hit again this week#@$%!. This is the second time, and I figured after the dumb a$$ ran the diesel through his/her car the first time, it would not happen again. My ol' lady's Subaru got hit for the 5th time also, and I can't find a locking cap for hers that works.

I am so close to rigging up a detonator on the Subaru to blow up the next time someone "unauthorized" gets in the fuel cap, but it is parked too close to the truck. It would guarantee that they would never do it again.

Any suggestions?

Install a motion activated light and video camera to catch the *******. I have also seen battery operated "mini alarms" that you can put on a door frame, maybe it can be modified to mount inside your fuel door. They have something like a 100 decibel alarm when the door is opened.

Criminals Suck

Ditto on the Mopar unit.

Locking cap also helps ensure fuel integrity, same scumbag could just as easily introduce material as well as remove.

its a shame people have to resort to locking a damn fuel container. I guess its just as valuable as "money" though. Savages... .

Find a spot to mount a 5 gal can under the vehicle and reroute your factory cap to it and fill the jug with some crud and of course a bit of gas so they can taste it. :D

When I worked construction road building in a remote area folks were stealing fuel from our 5000 gallon tanks at night. Solution was to switch the gasoline and diesel signs when everyone went home. Should have seen all the kids cruising town with smoking gassers after that.

Have a "street" light in our parking area for all that good that does. Helps them see what they are doing.

Looks like a locking fuel cap from Mopar is it. I will be going shoping this weekend and will keep my eye out for a camera or security system. I have a couple of alarm horns from some old alarm systems. I will mount at least one on the Subaru to go off when the fuel door is opened.

At times like this I wish the make my day law encompased the property lines, not just the house.

Think a sticker like this on the fuel door will help? Simple and to the point. No need for language translation. [/IMG]#ad

Whitmore,

Back in the 70's my stepdad was so ticked off the neighbor kids were stealing his gas for thier car with a blower on it. He decided to teach them a lesson, he brewed up 5lbs or 10lbs of sugar with some gas and a phony tank to the old Dodge pickup. It was the last time they ever stole gas from him. Thier car died 2 or 3-days later down the road.

FYI

I have had the Mopar locking cap on my truck since new, almost 3 years now. The other day when I went to fill up I discovered that it had broken, don’t know why but it is plastic. Had a fun time getting it off. I haven’t had a chance to take it by the dealers yet to see if they will replace it at no charge, I’m not going to hold my breath. I dug the original one out of the garage and put it on in the meantime. I can’t say that I am all that impressed with the Mopar one but there may not be a better alternative.

Hey Sticks sorry to hear about the goofballs stealing your fuel. Play the game my friends dad use to play as a kid with them, it'll take care of business!

"Quick, jump behind the tree before the shotgun gets ya!"

I am serious about the game, they really use to play this!:--)

Heard a story back in the '70's. I would love to think it was true. Person had a big RV and due to the "gas shortage" went to a complete propane conversion. Now he had these great big tanks and nothing to do with them. Ah! how about using them for gray and black water.

One morning he comes out to find two new red jerry cans, 8' or so of siphon hose, and copious quantities of vomit all over the ground.

That sticker kicks a$$

I never had mine stolen, but when I bought my truck I took the cap off the car I had before. It fit perfect.

That was off of my 1987 Buick Grand National.

I never did think about the vent, but it's been on there over 92K miles w/o a problem, so I guess it's OK.

PS This is on the 1998 truck.

I took the locking fuel cap off an Astro van and used that on my truck from day one. Truck is 7 years and 1 month old with 72000 miles and no problems that I have noticed.
