My '97' used an engine mounted fuel transfer pump that operated without incident though 111,000 miles. When the 24 valve engine came out there was a whole lota’ ballyhoo about problems with the electric fuel forwarding pump. Sense it didn’t involve me at the time I remained a some what disinterested side-line observer. However, it did seem as though most (if not all) of the folks having problems had done power modifications to their engines. If was unclear (to me) if this was a problem for those owners that left their trucks unmodified.
I just bought a new ‘04’ and do not plan any engine or transmission modifications. I plan to install a transmission fluid temperature (and perhaps a fuel pressure) gauge.
Was there ever a real problem with the electric fuel pumps on trucks with un-modified engines? If so is it still an issue in the ‘04’ model?
Thanks
Old George
