Aftermarket injector question?

$6598. 19-Dodge replaced lift pump, injector pump, fuel filter, fuel rail and (over $500 each) injectors. My insurance picked up everything except my $500 deductable. I got all the parts except for the injector pump, STAR treats those things like gold. Okay here is something funny, with new injectors truck now gets 1 mpg more than with the old ones. Now I got a set (injectors) to send off and get fixed Oo. . Almost worth the 2 weeks my truck was at the dealer.

Thats not right. If you paid for the new injection pump yourself the old one should be yours to keep. Why should DC possibly make a profit on your dime if they decide to rebuild it.

They charge you a $360 core charge and I believe the pump was damaged by the water that got past the filter. Oh the dealer has to give an explaination to STAR as to why they were ordering pump.

A couple weeks ago, I had mine in for a Jake brake, wheel liners, mud flaps, SuperHitch installation, etc. and I also dropped $15 on a locking cap. From the looks of Bill's experience, that might've been the best money I spent. It was certainly the cheapest thing I've added...

I have a Napa PN 703-1615, only problem is when it is cold the lock can freeze so I carry one of those little lock de-icing cans with me in the winter.

Same thing for me, my price tag is $6136. My original dealer failed to drop the fuel tank when my truck was in a flood that covered the top of the tank and 8 months later my first problem occured. (original dealer denied any responsibility and also said the tank is sealed, total BS) The second dealer found rust in the injector tubes. Insurance is also picking up the tab. I have also asked for all of my parts back and the service manager said he would have to check with star to see what parts they can release to me. I told him I would be willing to pay the core charge but he said its up to star. What are our rights in this instance? I think we should have the right to get the old parts back.

Does anyone know of a law or statute that can back us up? I checked with Cummins out of curiousity, they charge 1020 for the pump dodge is charging my ins 1503 and they are going to get the core charge.

In this case I believe that I would have had Cummins do the repair in the first place.

That would have been my chocie as well. When I took the truck in I did not suspect water damage because the truck had ran great for 8 months. I thought the problem would have been covered under warranty (which is why I took it to a dealer). It took the dealer 6 days working with star before they came up with a diagnosis, and by then they had the fuel tank dropped.

Man,those are expensive shop bills, glad all the water in my 2004. 5 work truck's fuel tank was frozen or mine could have been worst. All my dealer did was pull the tank, clean it all out,and flushed the lines out or blew 'em out with the air gun,and the bill was about $750. 00 and the truck runs fine now. Before my water in fuel light came on at first and I drained it out of the filter fuel bowl, and 1 really cold day the truck didn't start or run, because the water in the tank froze... ... ... which was probably a good thing... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... John

Who or what is STAR?

I've seen STAR mentioned in other posts. Who are they? Seems like they have a lot of control over the dealers when they aren't even there to look at the damage. Everything you read says "Get the original parts back" so that you can see that they were actually fixed or replaced.

STAR is the technical information line for dodge dealers. All parts for Cummins trucks are restricted unless STAR gives the approval and they are the ultimate and final decision makers, If they say no... . then that is the answer! STAR dictates what tests to preform, often irrelevant to the problem, then decides what parts/repairs will be needed.
