Hello I need to know something about Diesel Fuel. My book tells me to use #2 diesel. Now the gas stations I use only show 40 cetane. Is there a way to tell what number fuel it is,other then asking the none English speaking pump monkey. Can I use other Cetane rating:confused:   _____________________ 03 HO 4X4 Quad Atlantic Blue 3. 73 Vortex spray in bedliner, smittybuilt stainless steel tube steps,RBW 5th wheel Lil Rocker... ... ...

MOConnor, the higher the cetane the better. Cetane is a measure of the fuel's ignition quality, and higher cetane fuel will make your engine start faster, run with more power and mpg, and make less smoke. You can boost your cetane number a few points with fuel additives, if you are forced to use 40 cetane crud.

All the pump fuel unless otherwise marked will be #2. Not sure what's available in your area, but Texaco premium diesel and Hess diesel usually have around 45 cetane. The ultra premium 50 cetane min fuels aren't available in NY as far as I know.

You mean there's people in NY who don't speak english? Imagine that. I have that problem here in this part of eastern Washington, but in NY?

Another place with good info on fuel is www.bpdirect.com , just click products. You can then drool at the BP diesel supreme and Amoco premier and be jealous of those folks in the few states that actually do get that 50 cetane minimum goodness:D
