The fuel gauge in this one is a LOT more accurate than my 97! When it says you're running low, it means it. I put in almost 34 gallons! When the light came on in my 97, I had 7 more gallons left. Also went over $100 for the first time. OUCH! Also, does anyone know if the "slow fueling syndrome" is part of the 06's too? Would the vent kit work if it is? Thanks

So , how many miles did that "almost 34 gallons" carry you ?

477, actually 34. 55 gallons. I did fill it all the way up the neck, which I'm sure the dealer didn't, though they did fill it for me. 13. 8mpg, overhead said 14. 3 or something. That's pretty close. Can't wait for this thing to break in! Still kills me that the engines are cleaner burning but get worse mileage so it takes more fuel to go the same distance. I'm not sure we're getting ahead or not. I guess all the entities that collect taxes per gallon are happier!

I don't know the size of the tank on the MegaCab, but I have pumped 41 gallons into mine on a few occasions. After I installed the vent kit, when the nozzle cuts off I can only put about another 1. 5 gallons, to top it off. The vent kit was one of the best bombs yet. Oo.

The MC's tank is 35 gallons, same as the LB QC. I'm just curious as to whether it is the same tank used in the other 3rd gen trucks and if that vent kit would help. It did take a while to top it off, but not a whole lot longer than the 97. It would be nice if you didn't have to dribble the few gallons in though. Tilting the nozzle back so it is horizontal helps a lot by letting clear fuel in instead of a lot of bubbles, but it could be faster. I think it would be faster to send the fuel down the vent line and let it vent out the big one!

The vent kit is needed on the Mega Cab trucks, I have one sitting in my shop right now.

BTW the Rokkteck crank sensor is working really well on my 06. My fuel mileage has improved by 1 mpg and the power and egt's are much better now.

18-19 hwy 70-73 mph!

16-17. 5 city.

YOu think it's a surprise filling up that tank... try filling up both your main and the 60 Gallon Auxilliary tank in the bed... . OUCH!!!!! :{ :{

$100 for Fuel!!! LOL

Buddy just, hauled out boat, did bottom job, new zincs, etc. , put back in water. Called around for best fuel price, and put in JUST 4000 gals. not even close to filling up, $20,000 {with haulout}.

Just another reason I got out of the business.

crabman :)

If you filled it to the top of the neck, then you probably over filled it by 4-5 gallons, which means that you still had about 4 gallons of fuel left in the tank at the time you refilled.

FWIW, I usually don't add any fuel to mine after the pump clicks off the 1st time. I can still drive over 600 miles for about 4 weeks on a tank of fuel.

I figured I had put more than the tank could hold, but didn't know it was that much more. I also checked the tire pressure this morning. Sure enough, they were set on "cloud like ride" instead of "this is a one ton truck, of course it's a little firm"! The fronts were at 40 and the rears were in the 30's. Bumped it up to 60-45 for empty driving.

Factor in the fact that your mega cab not only has taller tires, but weights more then your 97.

Looking at dodge.com they have some funky numbers. I hate it when they use N/A for stuff that's simple like curb weight... .

2500 mega cab = 7400# curb.

3500 quad cab = 6800# curb

I suppose 600 pounds of extra meat would make up a mega cab on a LWB frame.

That's not fueled. Expect 300#'s of fuel or so... + you. your close to 8000#'s I'm sure fueled and driver.

Compare that to your 97. I'm sure 6500-6800#'s is about right with driver and fuel? correct me if I'm wrong on this please.

Bottom line, you have alot more to lug around so fuel millage will naturally be lower on the 3rd gens. + emmissions crap, 3rd injection event I'm sure doesn't help for millage.

You should get close to 21mpg tho on the highway once you break things in I get 21-23 at 60mph depending on the road and average 17-19 city depending on the week and how slow/fast I drive.

weight average is 7200#'s for me

So he paid $5 a gallon for off road diesel?
