I had a chance to swap out my AFC pin to try out the 13H Out of my spare pump (see dzlpwr s post AFC pins). I installed and my truck would not start just kick occasionally. I reinstalled the Stock pin and the problem still was there. I have been having some lift pump problems since my Driveway is at a angle when I park i have had some starting problem but everything is cool when I roll it down the hill she started fine. I went out and bought a lift pump several days ago to fix the problem but have been lacking ambition. I swapped out the lift pump and bled it still no start. So I pulled the fuel filter and YUK it was full of dirt has been a while since it was changed. Put in a Spare I had and bled it still no start. I noticed the WIF sensor leaking so I went and cleaned it out reinstalled still leaked removed and pulled it apart (I know it was stupid to pull apart but it is 2 AM) found the Orings bad so I tried to seal by bolting with a thru bolt and a couple of washers and a gasket. Still leaked called it quits and picked up a sensor yesterday. Installed it last night bled no start just kicked. cracked the line at the injector pump and bled got good flow there. No start. bled the injectors ,no start, bled again, still no start, Called it quits. I cut the old filter apart and found there is a bypass and the filter full of dirt and crud. Is my injection pump screwed?? Are my injectors clogged?? Hope not they are a set of PODs with only 350 miles on them. Any suggestions?? Sorry about this being so long.

If you did happen to get some dirt into your injectors it very well could have clogged the edge filters inside of them. It doesn't take very much to do it either. Did you notice harsh running before the last time you shut it off? If the injectors did get plugged, you should have noticed a decrease in power or a misfire. You can back flush the injectors on a pop tester to clean the filters so if worse comes to worse I wouldn't worry about junking them. Is your fuel shutoff solenoid okay? Be sure it is up to par also. Be sure you bleed everything real good b/c a slight bit of air can cause all kinds of problems.

Well the pump has to come off

Black crud and metal shavings have been found inside my Injector pump :{ Dimmit. Thanks dzlpwr for the info.

SnoDawg-

Too bad about that. I had a similar problem, and the guide pin was just sticking; took off the top of the pump, and played with the pin, and got it freed up, then put some grease on the pin, and put everything back together. Runs just fine now. But if you have black crud and shavings in the pump, i'd say you are worse off than I was.

Sorry to hear about the result, snodawg!! I am curious about how you determined crud ws in your injection pump. I wouldn't know where to look for that. By the way I'm sitting with a dead engine also - Cummins said marine head on truck is "misapplication". Hang tough, snodawg and handle things one by one, both our rigs will be rocking soon. I love my first gen. Henry

The Beast is Alive

:D I just got back from the shop with my truck. The boys down at Advance Diesel pulled the pump, Cleaned it out,Replaced a couple of seals and run it across the Calibration bench. :) :) I am not sure where They looked and found the crud. ah the universe is back in balance I have my truck running again.
