I got a call from a TDR member that wanted to buy a vent kit. We talked about the kit for a little while and he then gave me a tip that I'd never heard before. Forgive me if this has been discussed before.

I can't remember what his name was, but if you're the one who told me, chime in because it works great!

When the pump clicks off the first time, get a slow trickle of fuel coming out of the nozzle. Leaving the nozzle in contact with the filler neck, pull the pump tube almost all the way out of the neck. Lower the handle so that it is in an almost vertical position so that the fuel arches out of the pump tube. You'll be able to see the bubbles in the stream disappear and bubble free fuel with no foam will fill the neck. Oo.

I've done it twice now, and it works like a charm. Fueling up keeps getting faster and faster. :D

I just use my finger to cover the little hole on the underside of the nozzle, and hold the trigger just so the fuel flows without clicking off.

You'll notice there is no more air being introduced into the fuel stream.

Saves 3 or 4 minutes of time usually spent waiting for the foam to die down.

All depends on the nozzle you get. Especially with the clean air regs lots just won't let you do it. But I always try. Never know when you'll get one that lets you do it.

Genos has a flap that fits around the fill neck that works great. Just roll it up and close the fuel door, when you open it again it unrolls. Definitely keeps the fuel off the truck body. Using bio B50 I have had less problems with foaming.

I just call it a full tank after it clicks off the first time. Full enough anyway.

I beg to differ... you can usually squeeze about another 2-4 gallons in that booger if you work with it. . when I top my tank off completely slam-full, I can go over 100 miles before the needle drops below the "F" mark... just something to think about. I am not saying you're wrong, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions. So, with that, I say "To Each, their own"

I just shake the truck a little. This combined with some of the above mentioned methods gets me another 4 gallons w/o any problems.

If you know the fuel people well, pull forward and slam the brakes once or twice after youre done filling. (of course you got to remove the fuel nozzle) Worth at least another gallon all the time. :D

Set the nozzel at the slowest position, it will take longer to fill up but there will be very little foam and you will get a little more fuel. When the nozzel is wide open the counter will record slightly more fuel than you are getting. I remember in 1966 fuel was 19. 9 per gal and as the years went by you know the rest of the story

And here I thought I was the only one obsessive about filling all the way up!

I notice when using the big nozzle wide open, sometimes it will keep clicking off a few seconds after I start pumping. What causes that?

Roy

It's the way there setup. Different pumps will be more or less sensitive.

I've always filled at the smaller nozzles.

Nothing got me more PO'ed than a PU truck tieing up the fuel isle when I needed to fuel.

After a 18 hr ~ish day... . all I wanted to do was go home.

Some folks like to keep accurate track of fuel mileage - and to do that, you really need to get the fuel to the same level from tank to tank...

You really can't do the "fill-til-the-nozzle-clicks-off" bit, because that can vary widely from one fillup to another, or one pump to another...

I tried the tilt-back-let-it-run-slowly method today. That, with a little rocking of the truck, filled up much quicker than in the past. I tried putting my finger on the hole, but that shut it down. Thanks for the tip!
