I finally spent the doe and drove from New Mexico to DTT in Canada a couple weeks ago. I met with Bill and his family/staff in their shop and within an hour and a half they had the transmission out stripped and in the hot tank. These guys are professionals and I had a great time. Bill and his staff took the time to show me what was being done and why. Upon inspection second and third clutches/bands were shot, glad I made it up there looking at the burnt fluid and clutches. I have been driving for a week on the DTT transmission and WOW! No need to powerbrake this animal now. Just running the BDDL on performance will light up the tires through third gear. Feels like an additional 35-40 horsepower on top of the performance program. This was definately money well spent. If you don't have your transmission done, just do it. You won't be disappointed. I highly recommend DTT both for the quality of their work and the lack of BS. Thanks again Bill and family/staff

congrats on the new transmission!! i am on the fence of what i am going to do with mine. . where in NM are you located, i would love to take a ride and check it out if possible. check out our New Mexico thread here or come join us on www.nmtdr.com

I am just outside of Ojo Caliente. Do a full transmission. I did every thing as I don't want to go there again. Billett drum, input and output valve body and TC along with their SFI flex plate. I did not opt for the intermediate shaft as they said 1 out of two are breaking when the stocker is holding the power well.

I'm jealous... James Northum is doing my full DTT 48RE this week down in Midlothian, TX. He's doing a full rebuild, but I'm only having the billet input shaft done along with the DTT torque converter. I can't wait till Thursday!!

I'll put the EZ on level 3 and kill what little is left of my Toyo Open Country AT's!

James is awesome. He has worked on two of my trucks in the past without any issues with the auto. A friend down the street has a twin set up on a 99 built by our old friend Nowell Thomas... aka HVAC that will put 700HP down to the rear wheels on any given day. The trans has been in it for 4 years without even a hiccup.

DTT is awesome. I've been more than absolutely thrilled with mine. You'll find a whole new truck after you're done getting that DTT installed. You'll fall in love with your truck all over again.

James did my transmission awhile back. I am totally happy with mine. Especially knowing I can run a 13. 4 sec 1/4 mile at 102MPH on #2 only and the truck still has more. Oh and 522HP/998TQ isn't bad on the dyno.

Desert Diesel Parts

You New Mexico guys who are considering a DTT might want to consider Fred Swanson@ Desert Diesel Parts. He's an authorized DTT installer and much closer. His # is 623-910-9575. He's near Phoenix.

An interesting aside...

James is building my 48RE because something was making a nasty banging or rattling sound while I was pulling the 5er recently. It sounded like a bad rod bearing, but the engine would rev smoothly and made great power, just under certain conditions it would make some version of an engine-speed rattle.

My shade-tree brain conjured images of a super-heated torque converter warping and banging around. Turns out that wasn't too far from the truth.

When James opened the little access cover on the bell housing, bits of a bolt fell out AND apparently pieces had made their way, somehow, into the main transmission pan. He says there were only 5 bolts holding the torque converter on. One had, somehow, backed out and chewed up the flex plate and nicked the inside of the bell housing.

Helluva way to get a full DTT rebuild - like I needed a reason!
