I pulled the little tamper-evident cap off of my fuel screw today to do a little adjustin'. After I popped it off, the collar is damn near touching the jamb nut! I loosened the nut and could only turn it a half turn before it bottomed against the jamb nut. Does this sound normal to any of you guys? A little back ground, the pump was changed sometime before 35K when the original owner had the truck (I assume recall). The second owner never messed with anything and all of the tamper caps are/were still on it. I assume this thing was set to the stock spec as my truck was/is no ball of fire, but I figured I'd have more room to screw, if you will. Whatchoo guys think?

When the pump was changed, they might of turned the screw in some, then crimped on the lock collar. Pull the screw and grind off the silly lock collar. Be careful not to damage the threads too much. If you do, new fuel screws are available for ~$15 or less I believe. But that would only be necessary if you really screwed up the threads.

Travis,

That sounds about what mine was like in it's stock form. You can remove the collar without taking the screw out. A small sharp chisel will open the collar at the seam, then you can work it around enough to pop the spot weld.

I could not get a full turn out of mine before it hit the lockcollar. I know mine was unmolested, Dad bought it new, and I never had any pump work done to it when I messed with the screw.

An old pump shop owner said when the first gens first came out, there was real spunky ones, and there was real doggy ones. Pump settings were all over the place.

That's right. Some came from the factory with 160hp, 400ftlb at the wheels! Heck mine untouched with only stacks as the only mod put down 177hp 417ftlb at the wheels.

Alrighty then, sounds like the norm. It runs quite a bit better with just the 1/2 turn, so I think I'll wait until I tow something to decide whether or not to mess with it more. I don't want a bunch of smoke, so I don't wanna get wild with the screwin'.
