I have a fumoto(sp?) drain valve on my 02. What I am wondering is, does this valve stick up into the pan and keep some of the oil from draining all the way out? I had a high copper number in my last oil sample, and am trying to track it down and want to make sure I get all the oil out. I had a turbo go out on the truck and have put on a new one and was just wondering if it kept any oil in the pan. Thanks. T.

In days of old the Fumoto did not have cross drilled holes and I had drilled my own. At that time the prevailing opinion was you would leave oil in the pan if you did not cross drill. I have never had the pan off to see how the Fumoto is inside the pan to say one way or the other or it was a fairy tale!!!

Without cross drilling the Fumoto you will leave some oil in the pan. The pan has a thick washer in it to provide material to form a thread in which to screw the plug, either stock or aftermarket, into. The washer has a couple of groves cut into the surface between it and the pan to facilitate the draining below the hight of the washer. With a stock plug those groves are open to be able to drian but with a Fumoto they are not unless the Fumoto is cross drilled.

How does one know the cross drilled holes in the plug line up with the washer grooves?

If nothing is done how much oil are we talking about?

Would it be better to grind off the plug some?

There was another thread on here about this a while back. I think the consensus was that the amount of oil left was negligible. Cross drilling was recommended. It sounds like Fumoto has started doing that from the factory.

It does not matter if the cross drilled holes line up. The area on the Fumoto were you would cross drill is small in diameter then the plug hole in the pan so it provides a resess for the oil to flow around to find the cross drilled holes.
