When my truck is cold (after sitting overnight anywhere from 60* on down) I can go up the road in second or third and hold it in a certain RPM range, around 2200-2300 and it will roll the white/gray smoke all the way down the block. After the truck warms up the fun is over. I don't do this every time or for very long or when a schoolbus is behind me or anything cruel like that, just when I feel like screwing around a little. Am I doing any harm to anything, besides the environment? :-laf
 
Heh, I make mine smoke every time I drive it. :p



Seriously: AFAIK its just incomplete combustion when cold. . I would be interested to hear other input about this subject though.

You should let your truck warm up a little more before driving it. If I drive off too soon it will do the same thing with my 300 injectors, didn't do it with the stockers. Mine misses along with the white smoke. What I do it just lug it a couple times and floor it, let the black smoke roll and then get off of it before the turbo spools. It warms up the combustion chamber in a hurry and then it will stop blowing the white smoke and missing.
 
I don't think taking it up to that high of RPM right off the bat is the best for it, and intentionally making it miss and pop probably isn't the best either. When that happens you're basically throwing raw fuel in there and potentially washing down some cylinders, and if not that the cold smoldering fuel can contribute to sticky rings and/or deposits on valve stems. . . if the engine isn't run for a good 30+ minutes at a time to burn it off every day.

It sounds like your timing may be a little retarded. Mine would pop and carry on at 2200-2300 real bad when it was cold, I reset the timing and all is well :D
 
I have heard that pistons can be melted by giving too much throttle on a heavily fueled, cold engine... fuel dropplet makes it down onto the piston surface.



When my motor is cold and I put in in drive it lunges(my foot off the throttle). It will sit still for a moment and then lunge forward... still... lunge, and so on. Looks/sounds pretty cool especially since it's rolling out more fog than London Harbor.



I was amazed to find out that upon installing my big injectors the truck fired much easier. With 370s I had to ether start it nearly every time it sat for more than 5-6 hours.

As far as I know the timing is stock for CPL 1550. I am hoping to find someone in the area from the TDR who can help me bump it to about 15. 5*.



I figured it was incomplete combustion with cold chambers. It will do that even after I let it idle for a minute of so. Is it because of my larger than stock injectors, I think they are 215, or will stockers do that too?



Smoking is still a relatively new phenomenon for me coming from a 600 which would hardly make anything unless heavily loaded and flogged. I feel like one of the bad kids puffin on a Pall Mall behind the school now :-laf



I'll try to keep the cold engine smoking to a minimum and make sure that it gets good and hot after after smoking sessions to keep her clean. As soon as I get my KDP kit in this weekend I'll be ready to start buying some goodies to make some real smoke ;)

Chris if it does it this time of year (I assume you're at least in the 50s-60s by now) I am sure your timing needs adjusting. It shouldn't pop & miss at all in milder weather, at least after 30-60 seconds. My '98 doesn't do it at all (stock timing) and '96 stopped after setting the timing to about 15*

easy dose it for me untill the engine is warm and at least half way to op temp I have seen to many engines ruined from impaitionts remote starter helped me and I use mine as a turbo timer to. I would cheak the timing also. good luck!
