Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Funny acting 95 CTD

Well a buddy that I converted to the darkside called me a couple of weeks ago saying that he felt like he had just lost some HP from cleaning his K&N drop in.



He would definately notice a drop in power seeing as I had just installed a #4 plate and a 3K GSK in his truck a couple of weeks prior.



Here's what happened... . he questioned me on the star wheel and I told him what it was what it did and how to adjust it. Well he went in there and turned it up some (towards motor), but he said after he cleaned his K&N drop in and reinstalled it he felt like he had lost a noticeable amount of power.



Well I didn't know what to tell him and he basically just lived with it because he's been meaning to go by Cummins and a pick up a BHAF. Well he calls me today and says that he turned the star wheel back some towards where it was from the factory and the truck is running better



I don't get it, anybody care to explain what could be going on? So I state the odvious: 95 5spd YES he has guages (wouldn't install his plate without), yes he let the filter dry before re-installation, but also he said he was able to pull his filter minder down REALLY easy right after cleaning his K&N something he has never been able to do before.

Yup- turning the star wheel toward the engine cut his pre-boost fueling.

I would look hard at the filter. If he can pull down the filter minder that indicates restriction in the input air. Did he oil the filter too much? If the filter is the only change he made and now has an air restriction that is certainly suspious. The filter minder is suppose to let you know that the filter needs cleaning. SO if you clean it and the filter minder complains?????

I thought that turning it towards the motor would add to his pre-boost fueling... doesn't turning it back towards teh fender cut it?

I think it's the other way around, but I stand to be corrected.

you have to find that happy spot where it kicks butt. too far one way or the other, no smoke or to much fuel and it will bog and then Finley go. find that "just right spot". and he and YOU will be happy.
