Funny conversation with a Dakota owner.

As far as the mileage goes my dakota with a 3. 9 5spd got an average of 13mpg. So who ever thinks that a dakota gets better mileage than a ctd 6spd I have to argue with. My ctd 6spd gets 15-21 mpg hauling alot more than the dakota ever thought of. Some of you guys really need to lighten up and get the whole story before jumpin on the soap box, good story Jason.

No one is jumping on the soapbox because of the Dakota! These are two different vehicles and they have two different functions.



To straight compare a Dakota to a CTD functionally makes no sense at all.



My original objection was Jason's description of his discussion (if you could call it that) with the Dakota owner.

I didn't think that was funny. Nothing wrong with owning a Dakota. Besides, they are lot more economical then our fuel hogs for a daily driver.

Nothin wrong with them at all but I have a friend that has one and drives it back and forth from Seattle to Montana. He averages around 16 mpg driving spd limits. I get 18, 19 mpg average on my Ram and i am driving usually 10 mph ove the limit. Truck for truck I'll take the bigger truck. More room, hall more, have much more pwer and more fun to drive. Oh I didn't mention his isn't a 4x4 either

Not 300,000, but halfway there!

I have one more Dakota story.

I have a 92 with the 5. 2. it just turned 300,000 miles!!

Motor still is using the factory installed valve covers. Motor never worked on. Second trans. Paint is rough, and some people ask when I plan to get rid of it!

Answer---- when it starts costing me money.

BTW, it has had Mobil 1 delvac since it was new, changed every 5,000 miles. It is still at or very close to the full make when I change it.

Don't call a Dodge a POS! I had a 92 Dakota RC/LB 4X4, got rid of it with over 160,000 miles, motor and transmission was not slumping one bit! And not for nothin', that truck, completely stock, would go thru anything, I have driven thru snow so deep in a harvested cornfield that the doors scraped snow when I opened them to get out and see how deep it was! Then, I got back in and drove away- from a dead stop!

The gf's Durango we just picked up has 168k, and is running great. So far, all I can tell that was done to it, was a trans rebuild sometime not too long ago. The Motor is all original. Get's 21MPG on teh highway, but about 10 in town (heavy foot I have)

Don't know about that. Before I put the flatbed on, and after BOMBing the engine, I was getting the same mileage as a '02 Ford Ranger, and I weight probably double.

Oh, did you mention that you pay 50 or 60 cents per gallon more for fuel then he does.
