I was raised in the country and went to a one room country school with one teacher and 1-8 grades. We also lived in a one room shack 10'x30' during the school week with our mom because it was too far to travel from the ranch every day, then went home on the weekend.
Anyway, one year my older cousin (I was about 7 he was about 9) stayed with us for two weeks (city kid) Where we went to school had another large family of older kids than I was, that we terrorized the woods with.
Well my cousin just had to have a porcupine to show and tell. So myself and several of the older kids trapped him one. When he tried to get him out of the trap (the rest of us stood back) it bit him on the left palm so his immediate reaction was to push him off with the other hand
It's a wonder we survived the dumb things.
