2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Funny Noise

I just bought a “new to me” 2000, 2500, 4x4 auto, with 3. 5 gears, totally stock and have a problem/noise I never encountered with my 95. The 95 has 237K plus miles and never has made a sound like I am going to try to explain:



While coasting to a stop the 2000 makes a “hollow tube squeaking” typed sound. It doesn’t change with speed, braking or coasting, turning, and engine on or off. I checked the exhaust by shaking it, lifted the front end and spun the front wheels; seem like a lot more brake drag then the 95? And have yet to track down this mysterious noise. The truck has aprox. 63K on it with new rotors, pads and gear box. The sound seems to be more prevalent when the road surface is bumpy and or turning to the right. I don’t notice the noise at higher speeds but I think this is more to do with the noise being overshadowed by wind noise and tire noise.



I was wondering if any others had encountered this and where able to fix this problem?

Check out the TSBs for your truck, there are several related to squeaking noises.

Did you check the shock mounts. Bushing could be worn out. I just had to replace the pass side lower bushings. I have Bilstiens coming to me on the brown truck. I can't wait. Oo.

Just pulled off the stock shocks and put Rancho 9K's... the bushings seemed fine. I think I might pull the drive shaft off and see if it needs some grease?



Does anybody know how much drag the front brakes are supose to have? They seem to turn a lot harder than my 95's.



I noticed that the sound takes a few minutes of driving before it starts; exhaust, front brakes not really sure.



FWIW: I got rid of the clunking sound when turning left after a right. It was the shoulder bolt that hold the track bar on the passenger side. Easy fix with some RTV; My 95 did the same thing. You could feel a "pop" in the floor pan when turning left.
