Does anybody have any information on Mini Trucks

I don't think all the "green" emission components are doing well with stop and start.
I'm not seeing many UPS or Fedex diesel trucks around here anymore.
 
I fully expect this trend to continue. I'm seeing more and more gas powered work trucks out there and the manufacturers are going to get back in to that segment if there is money to be made.
 
FWIW a gasoline engine is preferable in many situations. as an example UPS went back to gasoline power in those brown trucks that prowl most of our neighborhoods.

to be honest, in many cases it makes more economic sense to run a gas powered pickup truck sized vehicle.

No disagreement here. In fact I'm struggling with that decision right now. I need a new truck. It will need to plow snow, tow 12K equipment trailer fairly regularly, a 5500# camper a few thousand miles a year, and rack up all told 25K-30K miles a year.

Other than fuel costs and possibly longevity, what are the negatives in going to a gas truck this time around? The 04.5 that it will replace has 350+K on it and the only thing left in decent shape is the drivetrain. It's not worth any more money being spent on it.

Anyway, can I realistically expect that type of reliability out of a new 2018 diesel and the emissions systems being worked under the same conditions. Or am I better off buying gas?
 
Same boat here! We do a lot of stop/start with our two trucks that service our lawn cutting customers. About 20-25 accounts per day and about 10,000 miles per season.Also, a gas engine is a lot quieter than a diesel (at least my trucks). I hate plowing our residential customers at all hours of the day, especially during late night/early morning storms (like this past storm). The old Cummins can really wake up the neighbor hood while trying to push heavy wet snow (like the past two storms!). The most milage I have on the one truck is 168,000 miles. Still a lot more life in all the trucks --- only problem is trying to keep the undercarriage from completely being eaten away from all the road salt!!!

I went with a 6.4 Hemi this time, and it is the right truck for my current purposes. HOWEVER, you will be perpetually disappointed with how it pulls, or how it does in the hills once you have owned a Cummins. I hope they put a better transmission behind the 6.4, as the 66RFE pretty much sucks, to be blunt. Try to rent or borrow one to do a test pull before you pull the trigger.

I certainly understand. Have you ever asked yourself exactly why we choose to plow snow. When you factor the equipment costs, constant broken parts, etc. it hardly seems worth it at times.

Thank you for the feedback. That is probably the single biggest worry I have about considering a gas unit.
 
Sorry guys, have not had time to dive back in. Doing an interior upgrade at our Westbrook store and I'm here trying to keep people from harming each other over wall colors and such.....:D:D

The gasoline power will become more common in the Class 3 and Class 4 trucks.....different ballgame now as gasoline engines go a lot further before overhaul than they used to...

In these corrosive winter climates the wiring on the after treatment systems is taking a beating and a corroded green $0.10 terminal can cost some big bucks to find.

I fully expect Daimler to do something similar before long. They already offer the FCCC M2 with the 8.0 liter propane engine. A lot cleaner under the hood and under the frame.

40 years ago when I bought my first plow, an old guy up the street told me, and I quote. “You’ve changed the course of your life forever”. He was right. I tried quitting once but while standing at the picture window watching it snow with my nose pressed to the glass my wife told me to just go buy another plow.

Hey Mike, didn't Freightliner offer Dodge magnum gas V8 and V10's as an option in the light mediums back in the early 2000's?
