Hey guys,

I don't post here that often, but I just finished installing my front suspension (lorenz 2. 5) and at the same time I put on the 1999 HD t steering.

I had read on the board (after I had it all together of course) that there was an issue with the 2001 pitman arm-end tie rod end being a different dimension than stock. The pitman side rod end that is spec'd out on some of the lists you find via a search, will not work with the 2001 pitman arm. As mentioned by others there is a different taper in the TRE.

All one needs to do to make it work on a 2001 is to substitute the P/N on that list for your STOCK pitman side TRE. The threads and shank are identical, but the taper is obviously the right size for the 2001. Luckily my old one was still brand new, and now I have incredible steering.

This may be obvious, but new TREs on a t style steering, plus DSS, plus fox stabilizer, plus stock like angles, plus 2003+ style tracbar, and lorenz swaybar links= one extremely tight and responsive dodge ram truck steering.

I dont think I have felt a new vehicle with tighter/nicer steering.

By the way, and I will shoot some pics and do a write up on the install, the lorenz 2. 5 suspension system (at least the front since I dont have the rear done yet) feels incredible. I just ran down to the store and went through a parking lot with some ridiculous speed bumps just to get a feel for how the shocks behave etc. You can hardly feel the bumps..... until the *** end rolls over it! Then it jars and wants to send you through the roof. The front is absolutely night and day though.

Glad you like the T steering setup. My installation has been trouble free since 2002 and fixed my largest problems w/the orig oem setup. Two fingered steering... ... ... nice.

I've got an 02. 5 and had read that the taper at the knuckles for the TRE's was different. If it is only at the pitman arm, I'll be doing the swap. My truck is lifted and I get a little bump steer which I attribute to the Y steering as the drag link and track bar are in perfect alignment which shouldn't affect the steering.

If anyone has done the T steering on a late 02 or know some more facts, post up.

Thanks! Does you truck have the CAD (vacuum axle disconnects) front axle? Not sure if that would make a difference in other aspects of the front axle, and I wasn't sure if that was a running change for 02 or if they all had that one piece axles.

Mine has CAD thank goodness. I have been having front CV problems lately (well for about 3yrs) and if my shaft turned all the time I would be screwed. I believe that if you have 2 piston calipers you should have the same knuckles as me.

Thanks. I'll go out and check to see what I've got for calipers. I've got the Moog inverted T setup on the bench to go on my 97 3500. I'll put my calipers to the TRE's and lay them out dimensionally and compare to what's on my 02. 5 when I pop the TRE to install the MagHytec front cover I've got. That should hopefully shed some light on the situation. I'll post back when I have the dimensions.
