I talked to valvoline and they have fully released the Classic blue 15/40 motor oil and it is being distributed coast to coast!! I called my local NAPA with the part #'s and of course they still say it doesn't exist... Didn't make the Valvoline guys real happy! LOLOLOLOLOL SO I had them CALL my local napa. Should be OK by today!!! FYIOo.

I have the part numbers, just not at work with me. I have the part numbers for the Drums, 5 gallon pails, and 1 gallon totes... Will post when i get home!

Cool. I can't wait to stock up. I'll try to hoard a good supply and rotate the stock so as not to run past 5 years shelf life.

I don't understand what all the hooplah is with the differrent oils lately(CJ or CI) but I run Valvoline Premium blue and have had zero problems. Could someone please explain the differrence in laymans terms?

Greg

Apparently the new "emissions compliant" oils do not perform as well.

I don't worry about it, as I change my oil every 5k. I think the big difference is for people stretching the oil change interval.

Says who?

The CJ samples that myself and others have posted have looked very good.

Somebody posted a good point about CJ oil maybe working very well with ULSD ,,,,,,,, I know that my fisrt results, with I think 14,000 towing miles on CJ oil, was better than my sample average which was established using CI oil.

I'm currently awaiting the results of CJ oil with 25,000 miles on it ... ... ..... we'll see :-{}

This has yet to be proven... I have two UOAs that are as good as any conventional CI-4+ oil... and that's running between 8 and 10k mile intervals.

The UOA I just had done looked VERY good... Rotella CJ-4 is nothing to sneeze at.

Probably a couple years (and a whole lot of UOAs) before we can put this to rest finally.

My question is, what exactly is "Classic Blue"? Is it the exact same formulation as "Premium Blue CI-4"? If so, I'm in (love that oil).

If not, then I'll go with the Premium Blue CJ-4.

Remember that Valvoline had the Premium Blue line AND a "lower grade", cheaper 15W-40 engine oil as well. Is the "Classic Blue" this cheaper stuff?

This is my take on the CJ-4/CI-4+ thing... I think some of our highly regarded CI-4+ met the CJ-4 specs and was simply a rebadge.

The VOAs of Rotella CI-4+ and CJ-4 are very similar in a lot of aspects...

Everybody has already decided that CJ oil is crap, I've said all that I can say about the stuff and have proven to myself that it's quality oil.

My only issue now is the slight trace of fuel that has shown up the last 2 samples ... ... ..... ironically since I had my injectors fluxed :{

... ... . back quiet in the Buckeye!

I feel the same way... I have proven to myself that the oil will survive the environment that I use it in, and that is all that matters. I know from what results (UOAs) I have seen (and have done myself), I'm not going to be running out in search of CI-4+ that *might* be better in someone's opinion.

If you read on some of the oil forums, the oil "gurus" indicate that Rotella CJ-4 is the closest a "conventional" oil has came to "synthetic" in a lot of ways... it is very highly regarded on the oil forums.

I think the CI oil will protect the heavier fueled trucks better than the CJ oil that's ment for lighter fueled trucks using ULSD. I don't run ULSD and have been able to find CI oil arround here so far. I'm glad to see Valvoline bringing CI oil back for the folks like me that want to run it.

What do you base this on?

I'm running Flux 1's with a Quad race on my dually, pulling 10,000-15,000#, 5,000-10,000 miles per trip with a 20,000 mile OCI.

Granted, thats not 600hp making a 1/4 mile blast or a 15 second sled pull, but it's working the ole Rotella pretty hard if you ask me.
