Question about single disc clutch: Flywheel resurface?

I have 130,000 on the truck. At 90,000 truck went in for duel-mass flywheeel. truck shook all over the place. (no warrantee) When I got it back I could notice a sound in the transmission, sounds like a bad from bearing, main shaft or something. Anyway, sound has progressivly gotten worse. I have already put in $2500 in repairs and don't want to pull the trainy again if I can get away with it for awhile. Question is, I'm thinking of adding lucas oil extender with a transmission change to maybe help lubricate those bad bearings. opinions?

Your trans should be filled with automatic trans fluid so unless the lucas is compatible with the auto trans fluid I would say no. G56s did have a problem with one of the countershafts not being quite in alignment with rest of shafts. I had two replaced in two different trucks because of this.

Maybe I should have taken this a little farther. The bottle says it is compatable with ATF. ALso the noice I get is most noticeble in 5th gear. It is obvious its a bearing noise. I just don't want to loose a transmission at an unopertune time.

Does your transmission pop out of reverse when backing down a hill? Maybe a long shot, but there is a TSB out for the reverse problem, and somehow the reverse/5th gear assembly is connected in some way.

My G-56 always felt harsh in 5th. I just had the TSB performed for popping out of reverse, and the 5th gear problem went away.

Not sure what to recommend on the Lucas... I know I won't ever use it in an engine again! --Eric

Just curious, why would you not use lucas in an engine? I seem to have had good luck with it over the years?

transmission doesn't pop out of reverse, in fact seems to run pretty good other then it sounds like an old truck.

Well, may be coincidence, but I never had much luck with it on my chevy gasser. I put a brand new factory crate engine in, and always used 1 qt lucas with 4 quarts valvoline at each oil change. By 60,000 miles, the engine was so worn out that it wouldn't even hold oil pressure unless you ran 20-50 weight oil and a heavy dose of lucas.

I've heard similar things from others about using it in an engine... that the engine becomes "hooked" on it, and will not hold oil pressure if you go back to straight oil. Who knows, it may have been something completely different in my case, but I think I'll just stick with a good quality synthetic.

If you look around at Bob Is The Oil Guy, there is some discouraging evidence against lucas as well. --Eric

Please take the time to research the use of Lucas oil additives (any additive for that goes). Bobstheoilguy.com has a good demonstration on Lucas, like excess foaming etc, which leads to poor lubrication. If anything, find out and repair what is wrong with the trans. If you are looking for better lubrication, there are some good syn. atf lubes available.

First Lucas is typically nothing more than a thickener... provides no additional detergent, etc...

Secondly, a fix-in-a-bottle will not help a bearing that is failing... sorry, but your going to have to pull the trans and have it repaired.
