Anybody out there try the G-Tech pocket dyno? How accurate do you think it really is on hp. figures?

I have a G-Tech and have found it quite accurate on my Dodge Ram, VW TDI, Passat, and my son's Legacy. One trick that I have used to get torque at different RPMs is to slowly accelerate to about 200 rpm below the test, push on the brake and mash the fuel (holding rpm relatively constant), let the turbo wind for about 3 sec, then release break and then the accelerator when the rpm just passes the desired rpm. The max hp reported will be close to the desired rpm and the torque can be calculated: t (ftlb) = hp * 5252 / rpm.

My tests on my 1553 12V uprate show 250 hp at
2300 (at wheels) and 650 ftlbs at 1600 rpm.

Gas cars appear to be 80% or less at wheels of ratings. VW TDI was 100 hp at wheels with 90 hp rating (in the diesel tradition).

I was perhaps too brief before.

The device is amazingly accurate for the price. You do need to understand what it actually measures. That would be hp at the wheels used to accelerate the vehicle.
This is slightly different from total hp@ wheels in that power required to maintain speed is not measured. Example- power used to overcome wind resistance.

This means hp displayed will decrease as you go up through the gears and wind speed increases. The G-Tech manual gives a clear explanation about this.

This does not detract from the usefulness of this device as a benchmark, nor does it affect the accuracy of the 0-60 or quarter mile results. As someone else said in another thread, numbers at the track tell the truth about power.

Thanks for the response guys! I thought the results I got was a little hard to believe, but what you guys are saying makes it a little easier to swallow. I came up with an average of 285 hp. after 5 runs. #ad
The description of my truck is in my signature with the addition of no cat. , K&N filter and an exhaust blanket. Also I saw 34psi. boost and 1100 egt.
