I'm collecting the parts needed to swap a G56 into my '97...

I have the 2wd transmission, the South Bend clutch, and I know about the speed sensor from Dakota Digital.

The transmission seems to connect to the driveshaft in a very different way than the NV4500 did. There's a flange (like a BMW) with 4 holes at the end of the transmission. Do the 2WDs hook up like this, with a flange at the end of the drive shaft? Or did they send me the wrong transmission?

I can't believe no one knows if their truck has a flange or a slip jount attaching their driveshaft to their transmission.

No worries, I called a local driveline shop and they said to bring them all the parts and measurements and they'll make it work.

As I haven't laid eyes on both I don't know.

Looking at the design I would guess the 2wd/4wd are the same transmission. The 2wd has a drive flange to attach to the driveshaft to the transmission and (I'm theorizing) the 4wd removes the flange and the transfer care slips onto the splined output shaft.

Are you planning to do the crossmember modification so the trans will physically fit under your truck? I'd like to know how it all turns out as I have a '98 12V 2-wheel drive I may consider doing this swap on. It has the auto, which I like when it comes to daily driving, but bombing it right is soo $$$$.

Yep, the crossmember is getting notched (1 1/2") to make everything fit. I'm using my original (narrow) crossmember, the later (wide) one would make it easier but I figured if I was cutting/welding anyway I'd save the money and use the one I already have.

I have the transmission in, picked up the custom driveshaft today.

I'm going out to the garage now to work on the crossmember.
