I've read multiple treads regarding this discussion and most curious the + 1qt recommendations. My question is, are any of the Transmission guys willing to warrant their rebuilds w/ anything other then ATF+4 or 7 quarts vs the recommended 6 quarts of fluid?

yes standard transmissions, the largest in the u. s. will only warranty there rebuilds if you use pennzoil syncromesh and one quart over full. i see you have a 06, you need to get rid of the dmf before it causes damage to the g56. get a southbend conofe kit and while the g56 is out check the front seal for seepage if there is replace it and add the one quart in through the shifter when reinstalling.

Here is the link, it is an intersting read.

Sure is!!! Shame on Dodge/Chrysler for filling the G56 with a fluid NOT recommended to be used in it!!!! Uggghhhh... . I wish I had known this 6 years ago, and I would likely not have to be shelling out $5500 right now.

Just recently replaced the DMF, clutch, etc. due to T. O. bearing failure, installed a LUK kit although jury is still out as I'm concerned with a noise coming from the drive train now when letting off the accelerator, it's a clicking sound like springs settling and only when I completely let off the pedal, if I feather the pedal back it won't occur, I'm suspicious of the new DMF but the noise isn't coming from the bell housing, it's more near the rear of the transmission? I know I should have probably gone w/ the solid flywheel conversion, but was time crunched and realistically the DMF wasn't bad, I have 125K on the rig which does a bit of towing, so probably lucky w/ regard to this part of the truck, I'm probably going to get them to warrant the DMF replacement and try again as the problem didn't appear until after the install, will move forward from there based on results, just trying to convince myself w/ regard to fluid as concerned w/ ATF+4 at this time. Thanks!

I got a new one installed at Blumenthals in OKC,OK. They said it was prefilled but need to change it after about 20k to get the break in oil out of it. Some of this stuff gets confusing. My original transmission lasted 214k with amsoil. I pull constantly with the truck.

I saw that cumminsforum thread regarding what fluid is correct for our trannies, blew me away that Dodge/Chrysler would recommend ATF. I am glad I have been running the Amsoil ATF but recently I decided to go to Gorilla Juice with my next transmission fluid change ( Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum ) it is correct for our G56's also.

This remind me of their poor fuel filter recommendation when I bought my 2006. Factory filter was 10micron, then they went to 7 micron (still currently recommended) but Bosch suggested using a 5 micron filter when Dodge/Chrysler started using the common rail. I, like many others added a 2 micron between the factory filter and the CP3.

I find myself questioning why Dodge/Chrysler would be so poor at getting all this stuff right, I mean really right, after all, there have been a ton of injectors replaced under warranty, a ton of engines replaced under warranty, and quite a few trannies replaced also . . they sure have gambled with their bottom line and it looks like those who have not had problems surely might and of course it will hit the old checkbook hard.

I love my Dodge truck, but I am really going to think twice when it comes time for replacing it.

I don't see anything wrong with using ATF in a standard transmission if the transmission was designed for the use of ATF. I bought a 1962 Valiant that had a 3 speed Manual transmission that required ATF! It certainly isn't something new!

It's not impossible to think that the Dodge G56 has different syncro's or other internal parts than the commercial G56, similar to the ISB vs Ram ISB.

Clark, Spicer and Eaton has used 50w engine oil since the 40's and continue today. As a daily driver, sometimes tow truck, my personal choice is 15/40, however I do use 50W in the Ford in my sig. since it is mostly a tow truck.

I had a '69 Dart with the A-883 four speed. It came with 90W from the factory as I recall, but was difficult to shift when cold. ATF worked much better, but you could hear gear rattle when the transmission was hot. The best compromise (at the time) was Ford tractor wet brake oil, used in the rear end of Ford's with internal wet brakes.

i checked with my distributor for the mobil delvac 50 he found me a delo synthetic transmission fluid sae 50 substitute a 5 gallon bucket is on the way for $150

I'll be curious to see how it works...

I always thought the ATF+4 requirement was simply for DCX convenience, not an application requirement.

I put synchromesh oil in mine about 15,000 miles ago. Much better shifting I have 46,000 on the truck now.

Is This what you use: Amsoil Synthetic Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF) and did you put it in the transfer case?

What about Amsoil Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90?

Of the synchromesh fluids, Royal Purple SynchroMax is the most like ATF, Redline MTL is among the thicker synchromesh fluids, and Amsoil MTF is pretty much between the two.

The Amsoil (MTF) Manual Syncromesh Transmission Fluid has a Viscosity of 9. 6 cSt@100 C.
which is on the lower side of the 30 GRADE fluids. 30 Grade fluids range between 9. 3 cSt@100 C. and <12. 5 cSt@100 C. so it is considered a 30 grade fluid and does meet the Chrysler MS-9334 and MS-9417 specifications.

Yes, I put Amsoil Synchromesh in my G56. I left synthetic ATF in the transfer case. I queried the forums about putting synchromesh oil in the transfer case and comments were that it might be too thick when cold for the oil pump in the case.

Thanks, I just ordered 7 quarts, I'm going to have it changed when they put in my new SBC. Did you see an improvement in shifting up from 2,3 and 4, you know, that churk if you don't pause in neutral or double clutch?

Thanks again,
