Bad 06 flywheel?

Hey,

Friday, my clutch pedal started being stiff and unresponsive intermittantly (2-3 times per day). It feels like a power brake with no boost... If i release the pedal and re-depress it, it immediately clutches as normal, and it will not happen again sometimes for hours. I'm just curious if anyone knows what this could be before I go and do something stupid like send it to the local dealer. Truck has 8900 miles on it. There are no odd noises or vibration associated with the problem. I've checked the clutch fluid, and it is full. The problem occurs at any trans temp and doesn't relate to any particular throttle position.

Your best bet is probably the dealer (assuming it's in warranty still). The service manual isn't much help, but does suggest it could be the master or slave cylinder binding.

Any chance your slave cylinder was damaged by debris off road?

Also check to be sure the hinge at the pedal itself isn't binding.

Mine will be stiff after I run it HARD (Edge Juice and injectors) but it still works fine. After one push it is fine again. I wonder if it has to do with the clutch self adjust mechanizium?

mine used to do the same thing. it is the extra power the smarty adds. the dual mass flywheel is trying to seperate causing the clutch to move back towards the pressure plate. whats happing is that back pressure goes up into the hydaulics, and the stock hydro set up has a pressure valve and it locks the pressure. thats why the pedal gets very hard and takes a few pumps before it goes back to normal.

you can try and have a new set of hydraulics put on but it is over time going to suffer the same fate. your best bet is to step up to the SBC upgraded hydraulics, that will get rid if that problem for good. at that point you may want to look towards upgrading to a Southbend single mass conversion for the G56.

Mine dosent do what u fellas are talking but it dose vibrate pritty bad when u depress the clutch, almost every time and it even did it before the TST! Any idea what this might be?

I reproduced the problem exactly with a hard pull in 4th and then bam... hard pedal... So i'm convinced that the issue is ecactly as you guys describe. I guess the next step is turn the smarty down a few notches and get on the phone to southbend. I think I may go the way of the sprung dual disc setup with the insert-ed flywheel.

On a related note, how difficult is it to actually do the hydraulic upgrade that southbend offers? Is it basically plug & play? or does it take some fabrication?

Put in a South Bend last week. It is plug and play, and is really a 1/2 hour job at best. Very nice workmanship.
