Hey all,

What clutch does everyone recommend I go with when the time comes to replace my current Valair Dual Disk Ceramic/Ceramic street setup I have? Looking for something that I will enjoy driving the truck again. Ps. The last Organic/ Organic i had warped the disks somehow after 1 yr of having it, hence the ceramic setup by valair.

I do not tow except maybe once every couple months, Nothing more than 5000lbs. I daily drive the truck and haul up to 2000lbs in the bed almost weekly. Right now this current setup is very grabby for what I do and the heavy 3400# pressure plate makes rush hour stop go traffic suck. I did this setup 2 years ago because all i was doing was driving highway to and from school never hauling or towing. Life has changed now lol.

Specs on the truck are 2012 2500 CCSB g56, S465 swap, Fass 165GPH pump, Traction bars, Tuned by HPP, Studded, 5"TBE exhaust.

Based on shops and what I be been told. Probably in the 500-600 range. I'm leaning towards the SDD3250-GK OR GK-ORG. just looking for real world advice from others .

I run the South Bend DD 3250 with mild power upgrade through EFILive. It's been OK, with a little more noise than I like, but it is a Dual Disk clutch. With the power your posting, I would stay with a Dual Disk. If you contact South Bend Clutch they would recommend the correct clutch you would need, but more than likely it would be a Dual Disk. Good luck in your search.

I think I'd hit a dyno, and see. It sure would be nice to be able to run the SDD3250-G-ORG and not have to deal with any ceramic faces. If you're over 550 I'd even consider a slight re-tune to get into the 525-550 range, as you likely won't feel it.

That being said, over 500-550 is a big stretch of duration on stock sticks. So I would guess that you'll be fine with the SDD3250-G-ORG.

Not sure why this didn't pop up for me way back in April but AH64ID, I think the SDD3250-G-ORG is the clutch i'm going to roll with. Ive been running a ceramic dual disc from Valair and while its not the worst ive ever had it definitely sucks lol.

The clutch i am currently using is rated at 650hp 1400ftlbs which i think is a little over kill for my truck. I have yet to find a dyno in Dallas that can fit a Diesel but I am still working on it.

Look at my signature, I ran the DDS 3250 for @ 7 years, it was smooth engaging with the SMF. DDS abbreviation is for Dual Disk Street, I don't know the compound of the DDS3250 disks, but it worked well for me. Backing up could be a little challenging under a load, but for the most part it worked well.

RVTRKN,

What I've talked to South bend since then this clutch can have either organic facings or ceramic or they have a setup that has both facings to help hold more power but still be smooth to engage for towing. See below. I think even that is over kill but an option.

SDD3250-GK ---- Half Organic Half Ceramic Non-Sfi Approved Street Dual Disc 650 Hp 1300 ft-lbs Trq Rated For Towing 30K plus. Hydraulics included. NOT recommended for stock applications. !!!! NOT FOR COMPETITION USE !!!!!!

I probably could of installed a single disk, but needed the extra holding power for the occasional power spike my truck experianced when in regen, I know it ran smooth though.

yeah, Ive been debating on doing a single disk but i tend to hammer down to pass and I dont want to risk a slip. I havent had any issues with this current setup other than the pivot bolt vibrating itself out and destroying the threads in the bell housing that I had to fix back in March 19 but i replaced the pivot bolt, throw out bearing, input shaft sleeve and bolts, and the part that holds the throwout bearing (brain fart). Clutch looked awesome after 2 years and 70k miles. Still holding strong now but just wanting to be ready so i know what i want so i can have Explict motorsports in Whitewright, tx swap in my new one.

Phonenix Friction makes all single disc clutch kits. They are high quality and will hold up to your horsepower range will still having smooth engagement. Get in touch with them and they will recommend what is best. Dual disc clutches suck for daily driving.

I have not personally used them yet, but plan to when its time to delete my dual mass setup. There are others on another forum that have good feedback on them.

Hearing of a company any verifying a company are two different things. SBC has the best customer support I’ve ever seen with any company. I have had long talks with Peter in person on their clutches, and they are second to none, in my opinion. He won’t sell you what do don’t need, and has bailed out many members here in TDR when installers got things wrong, even the dealers. I no longer have a dog in the hunt with my Aisin, but if I did I would not use any other.
