It seems to be recommended by many sources to overfill the G56 by one quart. I am curious as to why some think the bearings will not be oiled in the front of the case unless overfilled. As I've seen on many threads, it would appear that the overfilling leads to heat build up in the G56. Is this true based on your experiences?

We use the MobilTrans SHC DC per Mercedes Benz specs and not the ATF. I wonder if the heating matters with the synthetics anyway... .

Thanks!

no we run a fleet of g56's and tow very heavy ( cgw 44,000 lbs) we have temp gauges on two of them. one g56 was shiped from the factory about a half quart low and was not on a truck we converted right away. at 34,000 miles the dmf failed when the g56 was pulled the oil was burnt. these were the early 06' and the g56 was new to us. we called standard and talked to them for a long time. testing on trucks with the temp gauges confirmed what standard said, the front bearing does not get enough oil to properly lube and cool it. with one quart over full it is at its lowest temp. we think chrysler decided on atf4+ to reduce inventory, the transmission manufactorer recomends several different fluids ony one found in the usa is delvac synthetic syncromesh sae50 we tried it and is a little stiff for winter first thing in the morning. we blended a dello equivilent to the delvac with 5w30 synthetic syncromesh in a 50-50 mix. our trucks have the trans-cool's and hold one quart with one quart over full gives two gallons. this gives the smoothest shifting and lowest temp. the dmf must be junked for the g56 to last. get a southbend kit

Where did you guys buy those? I have searched to no avail. I only find the Fast Cooler (Fast Coolers) and the ones by Mike at Lazar (Transmission).

Are there any others?

Call Genos Garage. They have the Trans-Coolers, but IIRC finding them on their website is difficult. BUT if you call them, they'll set you up.

Thank You!

I checked with Geno's and they said that Trans-Cool is no longer in business, but they (Geno's) bought the molds for these parts and hope to have some made by the end of the month... ... .

Thanks for the update... I got mine only 6mos ago, so it is surprising that TransCool went out of business in the meantime.

Still, it's good that Genos will still be selling them!!! IMO, they are a nicer product then the FastCoolers.

DO note that if you mount one on EACH side of the G56, it is a good idea to cut down the fins on the passenger side by about 3/4" to give more clearance from the oem muffler. Cutting worked best for me with a sawzall and then clean up with a grinder.

My oemclutch lated 198k. When I had a new transmission put in the truck at 204k Blumenthals in OKC put in 8 quars and told me to to the same. They did recommend getting the break in fluid out at about 20k later. Two months and about 24k later I had it changed. The oil was clean as new. Shifts just fine.

Okie

we build water and sewer treatment plants. we had to trim some of the fins to clear the exhaust on the truck's with the 5 inch pipes. we also insulate the pipe by the g56 to keep it cooler
