I have a 06 2500 with the G56 and I recently had problems starting the truck as seens in this thread. The other day I was driving home and took off fine and then I was having a hard time changing gears. I ordered and replaced the clutch master/slave cylinder hoping that would remedy the two issues but when stepping on the clutch it still feels really hard not the usual feel at all and I still can not change gears at all. I checked the plate that the slave cylinder contacts and it only moves maybe an inch by hand and then will not move any further. I'm pretty new to fixing this thing since it only has 40K on it but I would like to do it myself.

Sounds like a clutch/pilot bearing problem more so then a transmission issue. Unfortunately I'm no expert on DMF clutches - all I know is mine didn't take my MODs so I had to step up to a SBC clutch :)

Its something that you will need to pull the transmission to repair, I agree more than likely a clutch problem than transmission.

Started to take it apart but.....

I started the process of taking the g56 out and while taking the boot and shifter pole off on the inside I noticed 2 small tears on the top of the red boot that is attached to the transmission itself. Is that something to be worried about as well?

I believe that boot seals to the inside of the trans. I would certainly drain and change the gear box oil.
I agree with the other guys that your problem is with the clutch or pilot bearing. The fact that you wrote that the clutch feels "hard" tells me that the pressure plate has problems or the throw out bearing is binding on the sleeve that guides the T. O. bearing on the input of the trans.

While changing my clutch I noticed the same kinds of tears in the secondary sealing boot as well. I cleaned up the boot with some solvent and smeared a bit of Permatex Right Stuff™ gasket maker on it. It has been fine for 18k now. It was causing a small weep of transmission fluid that perplexed me before I did the clutch.
