I've read that the G56 is smaller and lighter than a NV5600. will it(G56) fit under a first gen W250? will it hook up to a 205? Anyone done a NV4500 to G56 conversion on a first gen... Just curious.....

i know a guy who put a NV5600 in his 92' W250. lots of work. LOTS

you should see the bill he got from the shop. it would be sweet, but its a big task to tackle.

There was a member up in British Columbia, I think his name was Marty. He had a really nice W350 that he had put one in. He had the truck for sale. Not sure if he did it himself or not.

That was a great looking truck!

6 speed

I wanted to do this. Took a hard look at what it would take. My truck is a 91-1/2 std cab 4 x4 with long bed. What stopped me was the fuel tank would have to be replaced with a custom built tank in order to clear the extra size of the 6 speed, just would cost too much added to the total. I felt I could have handled the rest of the switch. I beleive I heard that the 6 speed is no longer being built, not sure.

NV 5600 no longer built, almost 3 years now IIRC! And watch out for shops that say they can build you one, mine has been in and out of truck so many times in the past year and a half, I've lost count !!

exactly thats why the post is about a G56 s9x speed that ias available and used in other applications etc. . I would like to do thius swap my self. . the g56 is supposed to be better engineered inside the trans and easier to rebuild when needed etc etc... If any one has info let me know too.

Thanks,

Deo

If it is a 29 spline output and will mate to the 205 case, the rest will be easy. The 5600 fits like it was made for the 1st gen. I doubt that the g56 will be any more difficult.

Keep in mind that if you have 4. 10s, the G56 may not be the ticket for you, as it has like a . 80 or . 85 OD ratio- not much of an overdrive, IMO. I dont care for the sluminum housing, but I have also seen aluminum hold up well where I didnt expect it to.

Why are you wanting to go to 6spd?

I have 354s in the diffs. . I 'm just courious about the G56 cause I've heard it's smaller/lighter than the 5600. reason I want to try it is. I have two 1st gens. one is a auto and one is a 4500 I was thinking of throwing the 4500 in the auto and trying a G56 in the other truck which is much better set up ( on board air. Pac brake, hydro boost brakes, air rides, ect. ) just wondering if it requires all the stuff that the 4500 conversion required which was everything from the adapter plate back. . Might get lucky with the fit of the G56?... . I'm not asking about the NV5600. he G56 is the newer version 6 speed dodge is using. Thanks for all the replys. .

I too am looking very serious at a the G56 swap... the ratios for the od are . 79 and the new AE code trans is . 74. . the nv4500 and nv5600 are . 75 ods. .

Mummn.

Thanks
