Just wondering if anyone has strayed from the factory fill of ATF+4 in the G56 transmission? If so, what do you run, and how is the trans so far? Somehow I'm wary of having an ATF lube in a conventional gearbox and I'd like the protection of a real gear lubricant rather than a hydraulic fluid.

I have heard great reports from people running Amsoil ATF+4. Sometime this winter I will change my Trans, rear and engine over to Amsoil. Just waiting to get over the Christmas time "draining of funds".
 
I'm using Specialty Formulations MTF Glide in mine. I found Redline MTL a little too thick for this compared to the NV5600.

I certainly feel the same way you... ... I have looked around and found Valvoline atf +4 is a full syn. and royal purple has a syn fluid made just for g56 type transmissions..... it is calledSynchromax # 01512... ... I am not a fan of ANY universal type trans fluids... . one size does not fit all just like one fluid does not work best in all trans... ... MY short term move will be to the valvoline syn fluid that says it replaces DC MS-9602... ... WHICH tells me that it may be DC approved... . I will run that till the warrenty runs out and then switch over to RP... ... Look back about 3 weeks ago... I asked the same questions you did and got 3 great threads... ... trucksalesdave..... central Georgia
 
Just changed mine to full synthetic Amsoil ATF + 4. Shifted great before, now even better, I love the way the G-56 shifts.
