G56 temp guage...anyone else install one??

I have been looking at finally hooking up my transmission temp guage but would like to hear and see how someone else has done it before I start drilling... ... . I know I really don't need one on a manual but I am curious and already have the guage installed.

I had one installed on my G56 transmission last week, I had them drill the hole in the PTO cover. Most of the time it runs around 100 degrees but the other day when I took the truck back to the dealer to get the Boost gauge working with out having the lights on it was showing 180 degrees and stayed there until I shut down the truck.

pto cover is where ive also installed them on standard trannys

Is the PTO cover thick enough to tap? I assume 1/8" NPT?

it should be good for a 1/8" npt. . it's about 3/32" think

I have the sender in the PTO cover of the 5-speed in my '96. Around town it's a little over 100, long road trips it gets to 170-180 in the summer, 140-150 in the winter. Towing a small camper over the Rockies got it up to 225F once.
