Read about the G56

NV5600HD Six-Speed Manual Transmission

A six-speed manual transmission is available only on Ram

2500/3500 when powered with the 5. 9-liter Cummins®

600 Turbo Diesel engine.

G-56 Six Speed Manual Transmission

At the mid-year mark the DaimlerChrysler CVD G-56

manual transmission will replace the NV5600 on RAM

2500/3500 when powered with the 5. 9-liter Cummins 600

Turbo Diesel engine. The G-56 six-speed manual

transmission will also replace the five-speed NV4500 on

Ram 2500/3500 when powered with the 5. 7-liter

HEMI V8 engine.

Like the NV5600, the G-56 six-speed gearbox also features

close-ratio gearing, eliminating the “gaps” between

second, third and fourth gears found in five-speed manual

transmissions. This allows the driver to match road speed

and engine rpm more closely for improved performance

and fuel efficiency. The six-speed’s close-ratio gearing also

improves trailer-towing performance on grades, as there is

less speed and rpm drop when the transmission is shifted

to a higher gear. The lower ratio first “creeper” gear

improves launchability when fully loaded or when towing

trailers.

Ram 2500/3500 trucks equipped with the DaimlerChrysler

CVD G-56 manual transmission and powered with the 5. 9-

liter Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel engine also include an allnew

dual mass flywheel which greatly improves NVH

performance. The Self Adjusting Clutch included with the dual

mass flywheel maintains lower clutch pedal efforts for the life

of the clutch.

And the 2005's are back to 600's????, is that how they solved the drive line vibrations? LOL/LMAO

On the clutch end of things, we all need to thank Luk for this clutch system, being a dual mass flywheel and self adjusting pressure plate. Luk got the OE with Ford 6. 0 liters and the Duramax and put this same design clutch in these two vehicles. The duramax flywheels were failing within 30-40,000 miles so Luk tried to scrambled and redesign it. In the Ford dept. they could only put them in the F250 & 350s because they would not stand up in the 450 & 550s. We found that we could put the F550 solid flywheel into the 250 & 350s. This helped but did not resolve the issues. The biggest problem being that these systems will not tolerate inhanced power and torque. We will get to work on the clutch system ASAP. I will be ordering, when and if available, the complete clutch package for the G-56 trans. and start to work on redesigning a whole new clutch system that will accept the power enhancements.

Thought you guys would get a kick out of this. I called the dealer to order all the clutch parts for the G56 manual transmission...

Flywheel... ... 5018079 AC... ... $1356. 60

Clutch Disc... ... 52104725 AA... ... $333. 90

Throwout Brg... ... 52087514... ... $123. 48

Pressure Plate... ... N/A... ... Not available

Grand total of $1813. 98 and that is without the pressure plate.

I better come up with something quick!!!!

Peter,

Any Idea yet if the 13" flywheel and clutch set will work with the G56? The ConFE that I got from you 3or 4 years ago to go in my 2001 is still going stronge, but then again I'm no where near it's max.
