I did a google search and search on here. In 5th gear only at around 1500 RPM, pulling a trailer or not I have a gear noise. I read up on the "gear roll over" and I don't think that is it. All my gears low,2,3,4,6 are all tight. As when in that gear I can't move the gear shift lever at all with engine under a load or not. When I put it into 5th I can move it forward and back almost a inch with load or no load. All gears shift like new and slide right into place with no effort. The truck has 58k miles on it and all stock. I can't seem to see anywhere where there is a shift detent in the rail like the NV4500 or 5600 had. Does the shift rail need to be replaced, or the 5th gear syncro or the actual shifter? What holds these transmission in gear? Thanks for the help.

Yes talked to Richard at Standard Transmission. He thinks that there is not enough shims on the input shaft. He says he usually adds .006-.008 more to the shims that are already in there from the factory. He says since everything else works okay, he was 99% sure that is what my problem is since I only hear/ have this problem in 5th gear. He also walked me thru how to D&A to reshim the input. Very helpful. I was wondering does anyone have a picture of this D&A? I am better if I can see it before I dive into it. He also mentioned to check the quill to see if it is worn. Waiting to get the pulling truck done then will order a SBC DD clutch along with shims and quill from dodge. Hope this fixes my problem. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction RVTRKN

Unless your way over the stock HP, I would not recommend the dual disk clutch. It is noisy and can be a bit grabby at times, I don't like mine but due to a probable screw up reflashing of my ECM, I need the extra holding power of the dual disk clutch.

On edit, is Richard back in Texas now?

Can anyone help me? I'm going to putting in a SBC DD in my g56 in my 2012 Ram. After talking to Richard at Standard Transmission, he says I can shim up the input shaft (for in and out movement) so I have zero endplay or some preload. He says that will get rid of my noise I have in 5th gear since it is direct he has found they need to add .006-.008 shims under the input shaft bearing and this will fix my problem. I have looked on google and other places and am looking for a detailed instructions on how to split the case and get after this input shaft. Has anyone ever done this before or can point me in the right place to read or a video on how this transmission comes apart?
Thanks

Thanks now I need to see if I can shim the case or if I have to do the main and counter shafts. Richard says I can just do the input but does anyone know of this for sure? I have read that the input shaft bearing race is made into the front half of the case and can't be removed. If this is true I need to shim the shafts. Anyone had one of these apart yet?

Does anyone know where I can get a shim kit for this g56 without buying a complete bearing kit? I call Richard at Standard Transmission and he was not sure.
